Help, Cy.

Cy,
I’ve been working while standing on concrete for 9 years and have just recently noticed some very small spider veins on my legs. Around knees, on thighs, and calves. Not noticable until you actually get a magnifiying glass, but I want these things stopped. What can I do? Some sugget Vit K cream at 8%.

Thoughts?

thanks,
DH

Disc Hoss,

Sorry, I’m not really familiar with how one can stop progression. I hadn’t heard that vitamin K was useful. Did those who suggested it give any references? It’d be interesting if it did.

Sadly, the only thing I know, and this isn’t as much preventative as it is after the fact, involves visiting a dermatologist.

Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

Get a pair of shoes made for standing on hard floors. The easiest illustration is nurses shoes. Now, they are not all white and for women only. They make them for men too (and not white, unless your Pat Boone). Doctors and other hall-pounders have the same problem. It won’t cure your problem, but it may curb it.

Thanks RW, I’ll give it a shot. I just hope I look good in some “pumps” with my chicken calves.

Hey,
Nowadays the spider Vein thing isn’t a huge issue. Dermatologists today are pretty well versed at treating them. Check this - they dont even surgically remove them anymore - they use a laser to blast and destroy them from the inside, and your body’s trusty defenses remove them by themselves. I hear the laser hurts like a bitch, but Im sure you can handle it cookie. There’s plenty of info out there - www.alluremedicalspa.com/vascularservices.htm

A friend of a friend had the laser used. She said it worked fine. Just do your homework and find a qualified experienced doc.

Much obliged, VR. The info and brain power on T-Nation is a handy resource to tap into from time to time.

Best,
DH
