Heisman Trophy

I’m a lions fan, but I almost hope they draft Smith or Quinn just so they suck as pros. I don’t like either one of them.

However, Smith is the Heisman winner this year and he is deserving. IMO, Quinn didn’t even deserve to be invited to the final ceremony when guys like Hart and Slaton were sitting at home watching like the rest of us.

As for Quinn, that poor dude is going to be wearing the good ol Silver and Powder Blue of Detroit, so his career is doomed.

People said the same about Carson Palmer and the ‘orange and black’ of the Bengals a few years back. So you never know, right?
Yeah but the Bengals also underwent a management/coaching regime change as well… Hard to say Hack, hard to say.

Football and Detroit…oxymorons?

Yeah big-time bummer that Hart didn’t even get into the conversation.

Know any players off the top of your head? I hadn’t heard of NJ being a recruiter’s dream until they started winning this year. I always heard that Florida, California, and Texas were, but never NJ.

Dwayne Jarrett (WR, USC) and Mike Hart (RB, Michigan) both came out of the NY/NJ area.

It is very true that NJ is a recruiting hotbed, there’s just no large superpower in that area that scoops up all the recruits like there are in Texas, Florida, and California. That is why nobody knows that NJ is a big recruiting area.
I don’t really have the time to put together a list for you, but off the top of my head, Brian Leonard, Brian Toal (one of BC’s top players), Cushing (who was already mentioned) and a handful of others. You can just go to the PSU, ND, VT, BC, Rutgers rosters on the web and check out where the guys are from. As far as comparison to other states, I put NJ in the second tier, along with states like PA, Ohio, VA, etc (not surprisingly, states that are roughly the same population-wise). First tier being FL, CA, TX. I’m pretty sure the numbers will bear this out, though I could be wrong (gasp).

As for Mike Hart, yeah, he’s from NY, but nowhere near NJ. He’s from Syracuse, which is a good 200+ miles from NJ.
