Happy Birthday OG!

Peanuts: I know coke is HFCS laden sugar water responsible for a lot of the World’s health ills but you gotta try one thing. With a bottled coke, drink down or pour out about 4 oz of coke. Now add a large handful of salted/roasted peanuts [ NOT still in the shell ;)] into the coke. Now, drink the mixture, eating the peanuts as they come out of the bottle, one or two at a time.

DON’T knock this 'til you’ve tried it. It is SINFUL!! Some of y’all Southern folk what’ve tried this please add your comments.
I’m from the South and never even heard of that. We were raised on RC cola and moon pies.

Maybe it’s a Deep South thing?
Yeah, we don’t grow peanuts much in VA, probably why that didn’t catch on here.

I’m wicked babe! Thx for asking (I’ll send you a real filthy PM later).

Ok - Peanuts & coke.

Our experiments were using diet coke 'cos of my problems with sugar…

Dry roasted peanuts & coke. Not bad. Not great but then I never really liked dry roasted anyhow.

Then I tried the delight that is coke & salted peanuts. Fuck. I mean FUCK. I mean DAMN FUCK THAT’S GOOOOOOOD!!!

Renee - I know I mentioned cream and various other fun stuff but how do you feel about coke & peanuts? Well, at some point anyway? Several times. At least.

REDEMPTION!!! I’m glad you like it, Renton. Like I said, Coke might be a major representative of all that is evil dietarily but it sure is fuckin’ good with peanuts!!

Raw Gulf oysters on the half shell with tabasco on saltine crackers. By the sack full.

Fried catfish and mullet with hushpuppies and cheese grits.

Fried gator tail.

Fried rattlesnake fillets.

Chitlins.

Fried okra.

Turnip greens with ham or bacon.

OG and Renton, are ya gittin all this?
Don’t forget the Cornbread and Hoppin’ John. And some Lemon Chess Pie for dessert.

I’ve never tried any of that stuff! But it sounds mouth watering.

As for Coke and peanuts, I was thinking WTF? But now I have to try it out!

I haven’t tried the peanuts and Coke, Renton. It’s 4:00 a.m. here - I just got home from watching Queensryche play!!! Woooohoo… fired up. I have bruises from the barrier, but was WELL worth the measly $25 for a ticket! It was in Lewiston, Idaho… there were about 400 people there.

So anyway, when I arise from a vampiric coma tomorrow morning, I swear that I will go get Coke & peanuts. Salted & roasted - correct? I have some unsalted skinned ones here that I use to make kung pao chicken from Dr. Berardi’s recipe. I don’t think those will work at all - the salt really kicks it, huh?

Fun!

OG - - where are the birthday pics? You know we’re all visually oriented, my friend. :o) I am SO thrilled for you that you had fun. Very. Grins!

P.S. Hushpuppies. mmmm… hungry now.

I drank more alcohol tonight than I have in about 3 years. No, I’m not buzzed. Hushpuppies sound like food of the gods right now, though.

Hahaha. I only understand about half of things Push has written on this thread.

What the fuck are huspuppies?
FightinIrish26 wrote:

Hushpuppies aren’t much more than fried dough. It has a bit of a sweet taste to it and often have corn or bits of pepper in them.

Supposedly, they got their name from being thrown out into the yard to make the dogs stop barking: “Hush, puppies!”

I don’t know if they are, but I am!! Mouth is watering and I can’t hear those kettlebells calling nearly as well as I did before reading your post!! Time ta eat!!

I have alligators in my backyard. We have a pretty good agreement: I leave them alone and they leave me alone. The bigger ones, which I rarely see, are 10 to 12’ long. They flee as soon as they see me. The little ones aren’t as timid yet so I can get within about 8’ or so before they go.

Hushpuppies are fried cornbread, I believe, and one of the most delicious things ever.

As a New York-born Yankee I’m continually startled to find “cheese grits” on my table at Thanksgiving and Christmas, thanks to my Texan husband’s family. Cheese grits. Grits mashed up with cheese and garlic. I mean really, WTF?

They’re delicious! That’s WTF! Do yall eat cornpudding too?

No, thank God, they haven’t sprung any of that on me so far. And I don’t eat the grits, either.

But I will eat hushpuppies. Any kind of cornbread, really. Yum.

Whaaaat?!? Corn pudding is fucking awesome. A girl at my job made a batch of delicious corn pudding for me last christmas and I seriously considered marrying her. Seriously.

I doubt it. Renton’s favorite delicacy is cock.

I just looked at a recipe. Are the corn pieces whole in the stuff you eat? Because I couldn’t deal with that. Otherwise, it actually looks like gooey cornbread. Cornbread, I like. So if it turned up, I might try it.

Speaking of corn and the south and random foods, I love Virginia-style brunswick stew.

Did you mean Vicomte, from here? Because I just pictured him showing up via busting out of a massive cake.
