So, when Americans commit atrocities and cover them up we can joke about it and ignore it (despite feeling sick to our stomachs, as you probably do), but if any other nation does the same thing it’s a friggen travesty that deserves a 5 page thread debating the motives and philosophies behind the actions.

Nice.

Are we sure this happened? That is the question, if it did then he needs to be hung by his balls and beaten like a pinata. Unfortunately, in this day and age unsubstantiated accusations like this happen all the time.
It was a gang-rape not just one person. She got raped by her own comrades and locked in a conex box so she couldn’t get help. This is one of the most despicable acts I can imagine.

Losing both arms and legs wouldn’t be enough punishment.

True enough.

Let’s wait for a trial then. I can agree to that much, of course.

Hey if it’s true, the there is no hell hot enough for these people as far as I am concerned. If she is lying then she should go to jail for a long time.I’ll reserve judgment until more facts come out.

The Missing Girls of Iraq
No one knows how many young women have been kidnapped and sold since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003. The Organization for Women’s Freedom in Iraq, based in Baghdad, estimates from anecdotal evidence that more than 2,000 Iraqi women have gone missing in that period. A Western official in Baghdad who monitors the status of women in Iraq thinks that figure may be inflated but admits that sex trafficking, virtually nonexistent under Saddam, has become a serious issue.

Women Under Attack: The Talibanization of Iraq
Throughout much of recent history, Iraq was one of the most progressive countries in the Middle East for women. Now women are under systematic attack.

Military Hides Cause of Women Soldiers’ Deaths
In a startling revelation, the former commander of Abu Ghraib prison testified that Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, former senior US military commander in Iraq, gave orders to cover up the cause of death for some female American soldiers serving in Iraq.

Last week, Col. Janis Karpinski told a panel of judges at the Commission of Inquiry for Crimes against Humanity Committed by the Bush Administration in New York that several women had died of dehydration because they refused to drink liquids late in the day. They were afraid of being assaulted or even raped by male soldiers if they had to use the women’s latrine after dark.

The private war of women soldiers
Many female soldiers say they are sexually assaulted by their male comrades and can’t trust the military to protect them. “The knife wasn’t for the Iraqis,” says one woman. “It was for the guys on my own side.”

yes. i thought it was pretty common knowledge. and Bush Senior was head of the Zapata corporation which was similar to halliburton today, but in the south american oil fields during the 70’s. He had ties with Saddam Hussein through business contacts as well until Saddam turned renegade. Oil is the commodity that directly relates to power today, so it is no surprise you see a cross over of powerful people investing in oil and wealthy oil men coming in to power.

Is anyone else disturbed that a “Gang Rape” thread has five stars?

As of this writing, the only other thread in the top ten to have five stars (or any star for that matter) has the word ass in its title.

Disturbing indeed.

Maybe people think it’s a very important topic? Just taking a wild guess.

Of course it has 5 stars. It attacks Halliburton.

A woman alleges rape, and since it is against Halliburton, it must be true, ignoring the fact that it was at one time a subsidiary of Halliburton, and no longer is.

But because Halliburton at one time owned this company, and at one time Cheney worked for Halliburton, and Bush is connected with Cheney, that means Bush and Cheney raped this woman. (This is called liberal logic.)

Anything to attack this administration.

Excuse me? Have the words ‘Bush’ or ‘Cheney’ appeared before this? You think I can’t find disgusting shit about blackwater?

This is more of a “Americans aren’t fucking perfect, and we need to end this kind of shit if we want to claim moral superiority” type thread.

I’m not a moral relativist. We are better than they are. But we’re also better than this shit.

Who is “We” and who are “They”? Don’t fall into the collectivist trap.

We = The culture of The United States of America.
They = The culture of the Islamic extremists.

I wasn’t really referring to people.

It all falls under the same heading. The evil Bush-Chaney-Halliburton, and now blackwater which obviously ties in with this administration. Just different chess pieces. Besides, this thread wasn’t called blackwater, it was called Halliburton.

And here is another chess piece. No Americans are not perfect, and I don’t have any idea who is saying they are. Quite a few of them piss me off, and many are way too ignorant. But that doesn’t mean that this war and administration has resulted in the creation of a new breed of American who seeks power and rapes women because of it, as you came close to stating in your opening post.

If there was a rape, anyone involved should get into trouble. The rapists should be put into prison. If anyone covered it up, they also should be punished to the full extent of the law, as well as lose any position they have.

Where we differ is when the blame stops. I believe it stops at the people who did this. We always get into trouble when we try to affix blame to outside people or things. In other words don’t damn Halliburton, or Americans, but actually place blame on the people who did this.

You have to admit, it is neither the brightest nor the most ethical one of late.

Mage,

You understood and encapsulated EXACTLY what I was referring to.

beowolf, being a liberal, brought this to light due to the keyword: Halliburton.

Why not report any of the many rapes that happen on a daily basis?

They are all tragic.

Other key words/phrases: Bush lied, everyone died, WMD, Cheney, Patriot Act, Losing in Iraq.

JeffR

Why not report on the daily child beatings that happen? Why only the Muslim one?

This thread was not meant to be about ‘evil halliburton’, it is about claiming moral superiority. The GOVERNMENT supposedly helped cover this up. That, in itself, kills some of our hard earned moral superiority.

Their are key words and phrases for conservatives too; Support the Troops, Slick Willy, Mission Accomplished, I cannot recall, Global Warming (around here, only the disbelievers seem to ever bring it up), ect…

Get over it. I didn’t know the company involved was just a one time subsidiary, had I read more carefully I would have used the subsidiaries name.

The key words here are “supposedly” and “allegedly” or any synonyms. Until those go away, this story doesn’t really show anything about any supposed moral superiority.
Boston wrote:

And considering that the alleged victim is supposedly barred by contract from suing her employer, and also that her alleged attackers are supposedly immune from prosecution, I don’t suppose that these keywords will be going anywhere anytime soon.
