Gotta get them Nerf guns off the street.

The USA and Russia have both done it. It is a great achievement, but almost 30 years behind us. We have a satellite rounding the moon right now. Lets see who actually puts a colony on the moon for a suspended period of time.

The point isn’t that they are 40 years behind. The point is that we currently can’t do it again. We have the experience, but not the budget. They plan to have a space station operational in under 5 years from now, “open” to other countries for collaboration by 2020. In other words, they’re accelerating the pace and we can’t even bother to keep up the pace from 1969, and have recently kicked around the idea of cutting funding for ISS and other such projects as still exist.

Anyway I didn’t want to hijack this thread, I was just surprised nobody had commented on that sort of major development.

I’m not surprised. It doesn’t fit in too well with the “China’s in deeper economic shit than we are and can’t innovate to save their own rice eatin’ skins” script that’s so popular these days on PWI.

…hows that for gun control?

I think China is in much better shape economically than we are. They actually do not want to be in debt. They have the cash to do whatever they want. The only thing I think they will have happen to them is inflation. They seem to keep it under control by keeping their currency closely tied to the dollar. Once they actually allow it to float freely it will increase in value to the point their stuff will cost more than it will cost to produce here. I hope the US is not actively trying to break the Yuan. If the US is doing this then we will be the one broken.

RIP Mikhail Timofeyevich.

It is fair to say that few men have ever, or will ever, leave as indelible a mark on humanity as this man did, for better and for worse.

And with that move Connecticut has wiped out gun violence forever in their state.

“If people are going to do things illegally, they’re not going to be here registering their gun” Jared Krajewski, another resident registering firearms, said.

It may belong in another thread, but there’s this-

A barge manufacturer I used to work for here in PA just got a contract to build the modules (assembled segments) amounting to about 100 barges for a company in China. They are to be shipped over via cargo vessel then fully assembled at there destination.

Talk about reversal of fortunes.

Suck it anti-gunners. How can you not see the beauty?

Found this in the comments section on an article about carrying a weapon daily:

"Why do I carry a Gun? Thank you for asking!

 1. to defend myself, my family and my neighbors
 2. to accept the honor and duty of my basic human right to self defense and arms ownership
 3. to help other people understand their right, and even their duty, to keep and bear arms to defend themselves and those they love."

Yep.
This is good stuff although I don’t view number 3 as true. I think the right to bear arms means being allowed not to bear them just as much as to bear them. I have firearms, but my best friend does not. I don’t think it his duty to become armed. I just view it as he has the right to become armed if he feels so inclined.

Not all men feel the need to keep and bear arms to defend themselves. This guy does. I have no qualms with anyone who chooses not to. I would just prefer they don’t have qualms with me for choosing to.

One more thing along the same line (not necessarily trying to be argumentative) and to use your words – if number 3 is not true and number 2 is then you’re saying others need not accept the honor and duty of their basic human right to self defense and arms ownership. In other words honor and duty should not be expected from all. Why is that? Is it acceptable that your friend is not honorable in this regard? Not dutiful? Why does he get a pass?
I didn’t look at it that close. To me it comes down to freedom. If someone feels better or simply does not wish to carry I don’t think we should look down n them. Liberty is people being able to do what they choose. My friend isn’t against guns, it’s just never been his thing. I don’t think he is lacking in honor by making this decision. I don’t have a conceal and carry license, and I don’t feel less honorable without my arms than with it.

I guess I don’t view it as a duty. That smacks of control to me. You must do x makes me queasy in regards to liberty. You have the right to do x, and you have the right to not do it.

Silly semantic debate perhaps, I dunno. I am getting my conceal carry license soon though, just have put it off.
