LOL

Jokes about Priests molesting altar boys will always be funny.

just finished my HIIT workout. I must say I’m sweating like a priest in a playground.

Child molestation will never be funny. As well, statistically the percentage of priests that are child molesters is no higher (and is lower) than the rest of the population. It bothers me that people can have such warped understanding to think that all priests are child molesters.

Hey now, we Mormons only go to church once a week. Everything else is auxiliary.

For me, it’s nice- I mean, if I hadn’t been raised in a religious household I don’t know where I would have received my core values- honesty, integrity, diligence, et al. I think it’s funny though that on my mission the nicest people to us were always these three groups: Jews, Moslems and Atheists. The meanest people by far were fundamentalist, born again, bible thumping “Christians.”

I have a lot of respect for atheists, and I’d always tell them hey, if you want to learn what we believe about God, without mocking our beliefs, we’d be glad to share it with you. I also loved hearing their core beliefs- whether science or philosophy or whatever.

Personally, as long as you have a set of core beliefs, I don’t care where you got them. I still encourage you to be open and try new things- I have myself. Not to say that I was atheist, but I learned and read and talked with them. Not to say you’re going to become Mormon, but if you genuinely have questions, ask a Mormon. Don’t ask an embittered ex-member or turn to the internets for your answer. That’d be like going to PETA for advice on fur coats: it just don’t make sense.

Sorry for the little rant, but I just wanted to fully express a few points.
I learned my core values of honesty, integrity, diligence, etc from my parents and what’s just logical and right. I don’t need religion to tell me killing, stealing, adultery, lying, etc. are bad. Some things are universal and those are some of them. I always wanted to attend church because I had friends who did, but Sunday was the only day my mom didn’t have to get up early, so we never went. I’m still trying to find my religious feet and am leaning far away from “traditional” religions.

It’s not me getting off it’s the priests. Duh!

I love when South Park rips on priests:

You know I once wanted to become a priest. Unfortunately with the recent sex scandals there aren’t anymore fringe benefits.

Strangely enough, the Catholic Church wasn’t always this way. One of the major reasons they decided to impose celibacy on their priests was to keep Church property within the Church. Since ancient marriage laws said any property a woman had became her husband’s upon her marriage, if a priest’s widow remarried that property would now belong to HER husband, and not the Church. Personally I think they should have just changed the marriage law in the case of priests so that any “Church” property always stayed “Church” property. There are some other minute points in there, but I can’t remember them all at the moment.

You should read A year of Living Biblically by A.J. Jacobs. It’s about a guy who follows the rules set out in the bible as literally as possible.

I remember hearing about that! I remember hearing an interview when he was 6 months through his year. All I remember though is him talking about how he couldn’t obviously publicly stone someone to death or something (in which case he could have just gone to Afghanistan during the Taliban and done it during a soccer game intermission).

I just like how Athiests know more about religion than the “religious” people, that’s all.
Many are continously searching the world’s religions (out of sight of their atheist friends) for a place to call home, or to make internet war against various flavors of religion. Then there’s the ‘Denomination-by-heritage’ folks who answer yes to “are you a x-denomination”. For instance, if a Catholic doesn’t understand transubstantiation (a Catholic, for crying out loud), I’m pretty convinced he’s answering Catholic because, maybe, grandpa was a Catholic. Most likely his own parents took him to a Christmas and Easter service every year, and he’s never been back since his early teens. I’m a practicing Catholic and I have no clue–unless they’ve never really practiced their family line’s traditional faith–how any Catholic could not know the body and blood part. The entire mass centers on it…We genuflect and bow at the presence for that very reason!
