Hey now, we Mormons only go to church once a week. Everything else is auxiliary.
For me, it’s nice- I mean, if I hadn’t been raised in a religious household I don’t know where I would have received my core values- honesty, integrity, diligence, et al. I think it’s funny though that on my mission the nicest people to us were always these three groups: Jews, Moslems and Atheists. The meanest people by far were fundamentalist, born again, bible thumping “Christians.”
I have a lot of respect for atheists, and I’d always tell them hey, if you want to learn what we believe about God, without mocking our beliefs, we’d be glad to share it with you. I also loved hearing their core beliefs- whether science or philosophy or whatever.
Personally, as long as you have a set of core beliefs, I don’t care where you got them. I still encourage you to be open and try new things- I have myself. Not to say that I was atheist, but I learned and read and talked with them. Not to say you’re going to become Mormon, but if you genuinely have questions, ask a Mormon. Don’t ask an embittered ex-member or turn to the internets for your answer. That’d be like going to PETA for advice on fur coats: it just don’t make sense.
Sorry for the little rant, but I just wanted to fully express a few points.

I don’t know if anyone else here on T-Nation grew up in a religious family, but to me, it sucks. Everything they do is based on religion. I wished I could talk about things with my dad, like a girl I’m boning and how good the pussy is, but i can’t, because I’ll get a lecture on how sex is for marriage and how i have a spirit of fornication. I wish i could go out to a bar with my dad or grandad and have a beer, but, no alcohol.
Even when i was a teenager, my parents made a huge deal over me looking at porn. It was like “so i like to look at naked females…whats the problem”. Apparently they thought some “spirit of lust” was possesing me. If i started talking about magical lepercons they would think I was crazy, but saying a spirit of lust makes me look at porn is just as crazy.
Being dragged to church 4 and 5 times a week sucked as well. I missed many a cartoon on a Sunday morning because it was time to go to church. Anyone have similar experiences?
I refuse to answer since you are obviously possesed by a spirit of the ghey.

Fuck you. Oh wait…I think I have a spirit of cussing (and yes, I’ve actually heard that before).
I grew up in a RC houshold(5 kids) and was “forced” to go till I was around sixteen. The last time my father asked me to get up early on a sunday morning went something like this " your bedroom smells like a brewery, you might as well stay in bed" . My older sisters were so pissed off because they were forced to go till they were eighteen lol.
My father still goes to church but not one of us kids attend mass. I don’t think that makes us evil. The racism and bullshit I saw on a regular basis while going to catholic school turned me off religion very early, bunch of fucking hypocrites.
Got kicked out of alter boys for drinking the wine, I deserved it. My favorite thing to do as an alter boy was when I ran the overhead projecter. Whenever it came time to change the transparent sheet to the next while everyone was singing along I would hesitate a beat or two and hear them all stumble and murmer the next verse lol. That priest hated my guts, he was also doing women from the parish…that’s a no no right?

Church 5 times a week? I’d like to know the church that has sermons almost every day of the week… Church of Troll maybe?
Secondly, who on earth would talk to their parents about watching porn? This and having sex are things that they know you do but for fuck’s sake you don’t talk about it.
My dad would search the computer to see what i was looking at. Even when I deleted the history, he would always go that extra step.
I remember whacky shit, like when I got my first job, I couldn’t work on a Sunday because it was time to go to church. Or one time when me and my brother was arguing, they made us pray. i guess to stop arguing.

Tuesday-Bible study
Wednesday-choir rehearsal
Friday-Evening church service
Sunday-morning service and night service.
So actually it was four. Unless they were having an extra service for some other event.

When I first started reading this I thought you were about to go all ‘Fight Club’ on us lol
I would answer your question with care, but that would involve caring. I think you’re a troll. You’d be better at it if you didn’t make every post outlandishly exaggerated. Church 5x a week? OK, let’s say that’s true, I know some people who go 3x a week.
Then logic would assume that you now have friends, etc, that conform to the way you currently live. Why, then, would you want to talk to your father about your fornication? Gross and awkward come to mind. Go talk to your freaking friends about it.
Your entire post just seems like another thread to stir up crap.

The fight club was the nazi nuns who would crack us with the wooden pointer when we were misbehaving in class. My parents didn’t clue in untill grade eight and offered to transfer me to a public school for the remainder of the year but I said don’t worry about it, I’ll keep my nose clean till school ends. I was a bit of a shit disturber but I don’t think I deserved to be slammed up against a wall by the catholic principal. I wasen’t the only student he cuffed upside the head either.
I’m supposed to look up to this asshole and respect him? faq-u! No parents wanted to speak out in fear of finger pointing at Sunday mass.
This type of behavior by my so called religious elders soured me about Gods teachings…and mass is booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring lol.

Im not sure if my fight club reference was understood. I was talking about when they would splice naked photos in-between the new reels of film in the movie theater.
My dad grew up in a very catholic family but I’m so glad he let me and my brothers decide for ourselves. I decided about the time I was 10 that I was a full blown atheist. He went to catholic school and did all that, but hes expressed to me that he really doesnt believe in it.
I’ll dress up for sunday mass when we visit my grandparents though. My poor grandmother would probably have a heart attack if she knew all her grandsons were godless heathens.

U Mad?
Poor you. You grew up under the roof of your parents who raised you and so expected you to participate in their beliefs. Youre grown now. Get over it.

Maybe you should have used your welfare check (or is it unemployment check?) to buy yourself a Tivo so we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

Yes, grew up in a very religious family. Both me and my brother announced our atheism to our Mom about a year ago. She cried for a few days, thought she failed as a parent etc. It was a good thing though, it just wasn’t right to be pretending with her, going to church, saying grace etc. Now she has stopped pestering us to do these things and has accepted our position. Our relationship is stronger because of it.
