Hey I remember you…I’m the one who opened my big mouth and got you to get a female division for that strong man comp in JUNE¶

And right after I opened my big mouth I remembered that we have a family trip to go on during that time…damnit…It’s ok, because I’d rather take the time to get STRONGER!!
Hope you get lots of women to compete though…

Looking forward to following your progress, and so cool that you came over here!!

As of right now we do not have any women signed up but things are going well with setting up the contest. I hope your training is going well. Maybee you can compete next year. Thanks for checking out my log.

great day today at WNY. I set 2 PR’s, tied a previous PR, and took second place out of 6 very tough competitors. I will have a full write-up later this week.

My Western New York Strongman write-up

I woke up Saturday morning and weighed about 243. I got all of my weight back from the cut. My body felt relaxed heading up to the contest.

First event 230# Incline Log for reps
When I was warming up for this event I noticed that the incline bench was not as steep as the one we trained with. This meant I could recruit more of the benching muscles from my bench-pressing days. I felt I could do pretty well. I started pressing and knocked 12 good reps with relative ease. Then I squeezed out 2 more and hit a wall for a total of 14. I think the best I did in training was 7 or 8, defiantly a PR. I was third in this event. At this point I knew the weight cut was not going to affect my performance.

Second event 56# weight for height
When I weighed in on Friday Mike gave me a few pointers on throwing. Mike also decided to lower the minimum weight to 8 ft. I threw 8 ft, 9ft, and missed 10 ft. I think this put me in the middle of the pack. Alan threw 11ft and I think took first place. I did not train correctly for this event and it showed.

Third Event Max Axle
I went to 220# during warm-ups and drilled it. My hips were popping and I could tell it was going to be a good day on the axle. I opened with 230# and it went smooth as silk. 250# went relatively easy also. Alan went just before me on the 270# and just missed it. This gave me the opportunity to make up some points. The clean was very hard but I cleaned it. Then I went to press and the weight got out in front of me. I reset and pressed it. Good for second place. This was a 10# PR. Corey opened with 270#, hit 310#, and went for the record. Kelly destroyed the womenâ??s LW record

Fourth Event 45# keg hold
This event was brutal. When the keg was released to me it kicked and I fought it the whole time. I ended up with 22 seconds and third place. Once again, I didnâ??t train properly for this event and it showed.

Fifth Event 405# deadlift for reps
Going into the Deadlift I was in second place, only leading Alan by half a point. Whoever won the deadlift took second in the contest. Fortunately Alan went before me but unfortunately (for me) he did 17 reps. I had my work cut out for me. My first few reps felt heavier than normal but I kept going. I hit 18 and wanted to rest a few seconds. So, I set the weight down. I was done. If I didnâ??t set the weight down I think I could have squeezed out 1-2 more. I tied my previous PR and secured second place for the contest.

This was the first NAS contest (in 2 years of competing) that I placed in the open class. My goal for this contest was to get my pressing strength up. I think I did that.

It was great to see so many of my friends that Iâ??ve met over the last 2 years and of course the new friends I met Corey, Brian, Kelly the pressing machine, and John. My daughter Hannah met 2 new friends Abby age 4 and Katie age 2

Competed in the Quad City Show. I didn’t cut weight and just did the show as a heavyweight. I ended up taking 3rd out of 7 or 8 guys. I’ll have a full write up soon

Quad Cities Write up

I worked at John Deere in Iowa the week leading up to the Quad Cities show. Since I was on the road working I decided not to cut weight. Cutting is pretty tough to do while you are eating out 2 times a day and having a “few” beers a night. I thought I would go in as a heavyweight and use the contest as a training day

It rained the morning going to the contest. I was kind of curious how the promoters would handle the rain since the show was outside. Willie set it up so we could compete inside of a nightclub. They decided to drop the Yoke though.

240# Log press for reps
I went up to 230 for 2 reps in warm ups and it felt pretty good. When I pressed the 240 the first time it was a bit wobbly but I settled myself and repped out 3 more for a total of 4 reps. I think this was 5th or 6th out of 8.

700# tire flip for 50 ft (I think 6 flips)
The tire was easy to grip and it felt good to flip. It felt like I went pretty quickly through it. I ended up with 24 sec. Good enough for 3rd place. I have to remember to get down on the tire quicker though.

240# farmers 50 ft up and back
I got a really good start, went ok through the turn, and fought it through the backstretch. I felt like I could have gone quicker. I ended up with 17.16 sec a huge PR at that weight. Good enough for 2nd place. First place was 17.08 sec. The farmers walk has turned into my best event. I havenâ??t touched a farmers for about 8-10 weeks

260# Stone over a 48â?? bar
TJ let me use his tacky since I didnâ??t bring any. I hit 7 reps in 60 sec. Good for 3rd place. The run felt good but afterwards I think I could have gone quicker and hit one more rep.

I ended up getting 3rd place out of 7 or 8 heavyweights. I was very pleased with this considering that I had no intensions of placing. This contest made me realize that sometimes you just have to go out there, get it done, and not analyze every little thing. All I was doing was having fun all day with no pressure and I turned in one of my best performances to date.

My fellow strongman competitors will never cease to amaze me. I met TJ on Tuesday for a training day and he was great. On the contest day I was 12 hours from home by myself and did not know anyone. By the end of the day it felt like I was training at home training in Dougâ??s forest. Everyone was cheering me on, giving me advices and words of encouragement. TJ, whom I was competing against all day, let me use his tacky. In my opinion Strongman is the greatest SPORT ever created and it is pretty cool to be part of the group that was â??never invitedâ?? to the fancy fitness clubs.

BW 244, another fun week of cutting to make 231 ahead of me

Bradford next week!!!

I have taken all week of since I felt a little overtrained on Saturday. My weight cut for this contest will be a little harder than WNY. I weighed 247 on Monday and thought I was just water logged but that was not the case. I am down to 244 with my cut ready to kick in today. A little more sauna time on Friday and I will make weight on Friday night.

BW 242 after work
Went another local YMCA where I do my sauna work but they were closed for maintenance

I decided to go out to Doug’s to see if he was home. Thank god he was and he let me use his sauna. After sitting in his sauna for the first three quarters of the Steelers game. (Doug’s sauna only goes up to 150 deg not 190 deg like the YMCA sauna) I came out at 237.

I went home took a hot bath and woke up at 5am at a BW of 236

decided to hit the OC YMCA for 30 min of low intensity cardio BW 233.

I will get off work at noon, hit the Sauna at Doug’s and I should be at 231

I don’t know what team Lindeman would do without Doug and Bonnie

I didn’t have to hit the sauna at Doug’s BW 229. I can’t wait until I weigh in

I hear you. I weighed in right at 231.5.
Hope to see you tomorrow.

â??Day at the Beachâ?? write up
First off I would like to thank Lou and everyone involved with the show. They all did a great job!!
The set up at the beach bar was really cool

200 Pound Log C + P each rep in 60 sec
We didnâ??t get a chance to warm up with a lighter log so I did a couple of pushups and push presses with an Olympic bar. I tried to poundstone press the 200# log in warm ups. I could barely get one rep. Everyone seemed to have trouble with the log since we were doing the press on a mat in the sand. I considered changing my technique from the poundstone to a conventional clean and press but I thought screw it Iâ??ve been training the poundstone, so that is the technique I am going to use. I was next to the last competitor to go and the top two were Josh with 12 and Alex with 9. I started off extremely aggressive with the first rep and it flew up. I just kept reping them out and squeezed out 9 reps good for a second place tie with Alex and a PR in the Log Press.

650 Pound tire flip for reps in the sand in 60 sec
Mark (our 175er) went before me and got 7 reps, so I thought I was good for 10 reps. I started flipping the tire but could never get comfortable. Each flip I was gripping a different part of the tire and using a different technique. I ended up with 7 flips good for 4th or 5th place. I was disappointed with my performance. Tire flip has been one of my best events recently but not today.

5 -1/2 kegs and 5-1/4 kegs over a 12-13ft bar
The best time before I went was 35 sec by Eric Price so I knew I had to go fast. I chucked the kegs as fast and as far as I could. I ended up with 37 sec . Good for 4th place. The one mistake I made was looking back to make sure some of the kegs made it over the bar. Mike Landrich was telling me they were good but I still looked back on 3-4 of the kegs. This was a really fun event and really fun to watch. Everyone was telling me that I was launching the kegs. That was cool.

240 stone over a 52â?? bar
My initial plan was to one time the first 3-4 reps but I tried the first one and my hips werenâ??t there. I set the stone in my lap and loaded it. I lapped and loaded 6 more. I picked up the stone with 6 seconds left and my arm sleeve slipped and the stone fell to the ground. It seems that when I use the lap and load technique the most reps I can get is 7-8 on any weight stone. 2 weeks ago I did 7 reps with a 260 stone in a contest. Iâ??m not sure where I finished on this event but I was a bit disappointed. In training I can one time a 240 stone 4-5 reps in a row.

Evening events at the Italian Festival
Car Deadlift

I knew I would have to get a pile of reps by the way the 175 and 200 pound guys were handling the car. Matt Michael went before me and got 20 reps. I started banging out the reps and at 13 my straps loosened up. When they did they peeled the skin back on both hands. I tightened my straps and grinded out 6 more for a total of 19 reps and 4th place

Fire Truck pull from hell
My training partner Mark (a great truck puller) only pulled the truck 9 inches and won the 175 pound class. When I saw that I knew it was going to be ridiculously hard. Sal (a 200 pounder) got the truck rolling for 39 feet. My other training partner Butch pulled so hard he broke the harness and fell to the ground. I got latched in, tightened up, and pulled with everything I had. I kept the truck moving for about 50-55 sec. When I got done Butch thought I was going to pass out. He steadied me and we both headed to the beer tent. My bicep tendons were shaking so hard I couldnâ??t even hold my beer. My wife had to hold my beer for me. Iâ??m not even sure how far I pulled it. I think I heard 41 feet?

I finished fourth overall behind Josh â??The Cyborgâ?? Cybert, Alex the teen national champ, and Eric Price. This was Ericâ??s first show. It was a great contest with a lot of great competitors. It was so cool to see Mark make it to the podium with a third place finish. It was fun hanging out with Sal and the other guys after the contest.
MY BODY IS TOTALLY WRECKED

Training is going well. The yoke aggravated my knee an bit so I will pull back on the heavy training until it heals. At our age it seems like something is always pulled or hurting. Just remember we still have 26 years of training to catch up with Butch
