Middle of the road horror movie with a VHS tape gimmick behind the short horror stories. It was better than most horrors I’ve seen show up recently, not quite sure how much that means though.
Had a hell of a lot of fun watching Blair Witch again late last night though, still creeps me the fuck out. Also The Purge wasn’t all too good, so there’s that if anybody was actually thinking of going to see it.

About V/H/S? Yeah it’s pretty out there, kind of creepy, but ultimately pretty meaningless, there’s no kind of Poltergeist back story or anything to keep it in the running. Still deciding whether or not I really like horror anthologies, reminds me of Goosebumps and I just can’t shake that.
But if you’re talking Blair Witch, you need to go see Blair Witch. It’s not optional, it is a necessity.

Whoops, in retrospect it likely is The Purge, disregard my previous post, the Blair Witch thing still stands though, just in case. Yeah The Purge is really not too great, tried to be kind of socio-political and thought-provokingly misanthropic, but fell on it’s face with all the silliness that comes out of it’s premise. It’s a dumpy thriller trying to act like it’s something more.

I think it works well as a social novelty. The audience seems to influence the movie more than the inverse. Can make for a pretty variable experience. If you see it with the right people, it could be entertaining, but like I said, my experience had no cost, so it’s lacking a fundamental element.
