I think the platform is great, but its only on paper. What could congress do to get it passed, when you say they aren’t standing up for themselves, what else can they do now? I believe a Republican president is needed, and the issue for me is Trump doesn’t align with this platform, so would electing him actually get it done? I don’t think Trump will limit his power. If Hillary is elected I’m assuming it doesn’t have a chance, so what is congress supposed to do when you say “stand up for what they profess”? I’ve shown that they have blocked Obama, put forth policy, and done what they can given the circumstances. What am I missing?
Anyone not willing to admit that all four Trump kids who spoke are impressive is simply denying reality. If Trump himself was half as impressive as his family he would win the election easily.
From what I have read with few exceptions they all wrote most of their own speeches. True or not we don’t know for sure. If true very impressive. But, we all do know that their presentation skills were incredible. I have given talks before large groups of people, talks related to my chosen field and you must have a certain amount of calm when doing so. But, I have never made a speech in front of thousands who were in the same room and an additional perhaps 10 million people watching on TV. Knowing that about half the country is going to vote against their father.
Furthermore, I have heard Donald and Erik answer questions on various news programs and I’ve found them to be incredibly glib and informative.
The kids are impressive and they obviously adore their father.
Trump’s address was an assault on the ear and an insult to the intellect. He poses a unique threat to American democracy and the American made world order. There’s a reason so many prominent Republicans have refused to endorse him or have stated they will be voting for Hilary to prevent such a nuclear dumpster fire from becoming president. The GOP has and can contribute enormously to advancing our national interests, but nominating Trump with the expectation that he will promote the GOP’s domestic and foreign platforms is committing preemptive party suicide. He is simply antithetical to core American interests and values.
Ivanka was impressive, I didn’t see the other 3 speeches. Even if all 3 sounded like Martin Luther King Jr. it wouldn’t be enough to distract me from the fact that their father is grossly unqualified to be President and has displayed nothing but extremely shaky knowledge of policy and the job he is applying for.
You could argue that point. But then again he will win states that the average GOP candidate for President could not win. In that sense he is expanding the party. He’s also gained more votes than any other republican to ever run in a primary. More enrolled republicans than four years ago. On the other hand the democrats had less people voting in their primary then when Obama took it the first time.
That tells me Trump is expanding the party.
Look…I don’t like the guy either but facts are facts. And if he was running against anyone other than Hillary he would not become the next President of the United States.
Yeah, both Don and Eric were both equally impressive.
This is the year that I hold my nose and vote for the republican based almost solely on the fact that his opponent the almost indicted Hillary will be picking left wing judges and that will end America as we know it for much longer than four years.
Of course I don’t know your political background and you may want the 2nd amendment abolished and others attacked as well.
I consider myself a hardcore moderate ha …
For what thats worth. And for what this is worth I wouldn’t be so sure Trump appoints a conservative justice either. What he’s said about that may very well be lip service to the GOP. If Republicans are worried about Hillary appointing a liberal justice why not accept Obama’s selection of Merrick Garland? By all accounts he seems to be right down the middle.
It’s amazing how far to the left the country has moved in the last 60 years to reach the point where this nominee is considered middle of the road - which the graph refutes. The same goes with the morals and social mores.
That piece doesn’t say anything to lead me to believe he’s more to the left aside from that chart in the beginning, which states 0 criteria for putting him where they did. It DOES say he’s gotten support from Republicans in the past. It stands to reason Obama could have easily appointed someone much more liberal.
I predicted months ago that Republicans will cave and vote to confirm Garland for that very reason. I think the argument is ridiculous, but I can see the Republicans shitting themselves for fear of the unknown.
A side note, what does it mean to be “right down the middle” of the Constitution?
I don’t think so, but you knew that already. The people that are coming in are not those who will be GoP faithful, they are people who will have no real party loyalty (aside from the fact that I don’t believe in party loyalty because I dislike people who vote a straight blue or red ticket without any firther thought because its “party”).
Essentially these people are democrats yhat the democrats went too far left for. But they won’t be hanging around for 4 years let alone longer
He has done a lot of that. This is where I agree with tedro’s “political math” regarding damage. I don’t like Garland at all either, but I think this may be a losing bet
Well, that is interesting. If the democrats have gone too far left then what makes you think that these new found republicans (and blue dog democrats) the ones who will put Trump in the White House will not stay around and continue to vote for the more conservative candidate of the two parties?
The democrats are about as close to be socialists as I have ever seen in my lifetime. John F. Kennedy would be considered a republican today.
It matters not my friend. If Hillary wins she will at least pick the next two SCJ, so with or without Garland (who by the way is far left) we are sunk should Hillary win the White House.
