Going Snow Skiing: Catabolism

I am going snow skiing in 3 weeks time for 7 days in Australia. Problem is that I get so catabolic over the week I turn into a skinny bastard.

Its summer in the tropics at the moment and I bulked up then leaned up for summer not thinking about the ramifications of the skiing holiday.

I typically expend about 3500-4000 cals/ 8 hrs of skiing

Now I am stuck in a quandry. I wanna keep my 8% BF. I could try and eat in excess to cover the deficit, but that will make me look pudgy when I get back to the beach. Alternately, I could just eat normally and remain in the deficit and get skinny.

The only other thing I thought of was to use something like Surge and drink it while skiing and treat each day like a training day. Sip during skiing, then slug one down at lunch and another at diiner. What other Anti-Catabolic supps could I take to help me preserve my muscle mass.

Overall I will be doing about 45000 cals (BMR and Skiing) in a week. Thats 6500 cals/day!

Shugs or JB I would really like to hear your opinion on this.

Thanks Guys

I don’t get it… You say you can eat normally (too low for all that exercise) or you can eat excess (too high)…
Why can’t you eat in the middle?

I’ve been skiing out here all day long (both snow and water), and Yes it’s not easy to eat “clean” while out for so long, but it can be done. Most likely though you will spend a bit more doing it (jerky, bars, powder, nuts…)
Assuming you have access to your car or storage during the day that is.

Now if you went hiking in the boonies for days on end it would be a different story, what with lack of refrigeration and all…

I think what I was trying to say was that if I ate in excess (clean) I would look fat by the time I got home (primarily due to the sheer volume of food even to get to maintenance)

As JB has said “A Calorie is not a Calorie” and its not guaranteed that the excess or maintenance would be burnt off through expenditure.

What I was after is something thats going to halt catabolism and glucogenisis.

After re-reading my post I see I wasnt so clear.

I guess I still don’t get it.

Are you a recent initiate to the 8% area? Is that why you don’t think you can eat maintenance and not stay at that level?

Or are you worried you can’t space your meals out properly and will overload at times to make up for deficits at others?

In one week you won’t loose muscle.
It’s not you’re gonna eat nothing at all. If you did that you would be catabolic.
If you just eat relatively clean when you’re hungry you should be set.
I did that 3 weeks, ate massive amounts of which big parts were fried food, mayonaise, white bread, etc. and when I got back after three weeks I was just about 1% higher in BF than before the trip.
So don’t sweat the week, have fun and just try to stay “clean”.

Wow, this is really foolish.
