Going Out and Budget?

Have you looked into/thought about getting a roommate? I’d guess that in a college town there are recent grads/other single young people who are looking to split a two or three bedroom.[/quote]

I live in a single apartment. Larger style of the 3 designs offered but still a single. I was paying 625 a month from May 1 - October 31st last year. Since I moved to where I am now I only pay 585 a month. My utility, cable and net are the same pretty much.

Other then rent, my largest expenses per month are 305 in student loans (qualified for income based repayment plan), 185 a in car loan, 95 in car insurance, 75 on cell, 80 on cable/net and 85 on utilities. How does this compare to others living in or around Missouri? High? Normal? I did my homework and looked to cut where I could.

when i was in rolla working on my masters my rent was 400 a month, 100 for utilities and net+cable … my car is a 1999 so its been paid off for years and my insurance was 250 every 6 months…

looks like your loans and car / insurance are big drains… this is one reason i decided a long time ago to never finance a car…

That said you may want to consider getting rid of cable… personally i hardly watch mine but i have direct tv and its only 20 a month so the random times i do its worth keeping…

Please tell me those are 40’s for 300 bucks a pop?

Also OP. 2150 with a car, student loans and an apartment is understandably very tight. That’s alot of expenses to pay making just 25000 dollars a year. That being said, what are you friends doing that is so expensive?

Not to brag but I’m on the flip side of this issue. I have very low living expensives and a fair amount of disposable income. I have friends with similar financial standing to yours and I’d rather pay a couple dollars and make sure you come out to have a good time, rather than have you stress about money.

$2150 is my net income. I gross $2900 a month, making 34k a year. But since 2150 is what I have to work with yes, thats the key figure.

And whoever asked, yes I did graduate grad school from UW-LaCrosse. Eagles baby!!

Your problem is that you racked up student loan debt at graduate school to land a job that pays 34k/year. Congrats though on living within your means.

I am aware of what grad school would and did cost. I know what I owe and have known would it may cost. I am not one to dwell on the past as its behind me. I would rather look at where I am and what I can do to improve the future. That is why I lead off this post topic with my current situation and asked about possible means to remedy the matter, not have a pity party on what may or may not have caused it. From what I do know I made choices then I would still make the same way now if I went back and did it all again from freshman year till the day I got my MS placed in my hand.

I had 22k in loan debt after 4 years of undergad. 42k after graduate school. That is while working as a a contract trainer part time all through college to offset loan needs. I also did 2, full-time unpaid summer internships as part of undergrad and grad school mind you. In grad school I did not manage a graduate assistantship as most everyone seems to do these days.
