Going for 405 Bench

Hey all, new to this forum but long time lifter.

Recently been pushing myself gradually more and more to get to that 4-plate mark on bench, but I wanted to hear some opinions first.
Not long ago my normal bench routine was 1x10 @ 235, 1x6 275, 1x6 285, 1x6 295. I’ve been bumping those numbers up a bit recently with success, and just today I completed a 1x10 235, 2x6 285, 1x6 315 and then topped it off with a 1x1 365. the question is, given this info, think I’ll be ready for 405 in about 10 days?

Second question, which admittedly might be better in the bodybuilding forum, I’ll be switching gears after I reach 405 to a cutting program. I’ve assumed that going for lower weight higher reps along with a strict cardio program would be great for this, but I’ve never cut before, so I’m not sure. my bench and squat structure would probably follow 3 sets of 12-14 at around 60-65% max, but any advice on this topic would be welcome.

thanks.

in 10 days no you will not reach 405 with a maximum of 365. It does depend on how easy that 365 was, if it came up like nothing then maybe.

nope

your question is mindboggling. are you saying you hit 365 for the first time EVER and now you want to know if you will be able to do a legitimate 405 in 10 days? if that is your question then i think you’re delusional. and if you do somehow manage to add 40 pounds to your bench in 10 days please report back and share your training secrets with me and the rest of the world. first time i hit 365 it took almost a year before i could do a legit 405

guess it was awfully worded then. I’ll be clearer.

I’ve hit 385 before, and up until about 2 weeks ago my routine involved the basic 1x10, 3x6 while ramping up the weight on the sets of 6 plus the rest of my upper body routine. I’ve been pushing myself hard though and just threw in the 1 rep of 365 for kicks.

I’m basing my goal of 405 partially on the 1-rep max calculators floating around. I’m damn sure I can do 9 reps @ 315, which extrapolates to 405. I’ll test that next tuesday to be 100% positive, though. max comes next friday.

1RM calculators suck balls…

Make sure to find a good spotter.

Yeah 1RM calculatos are worthless. There can be a great chasm between and 405. The only way to judge a 1RM is to do a 1RM.

Also cutting has nothing, NOTHING to do with doing higher reps. Cutting is solely about diet primarily and very secondarily about cardio and stuff. You can get cut doing 1RM’s and if you eat like a stuffed pig can get fat doing high reps

sucks about the calcs, but if it takes longer to get there, so be it!

thanks for the info about cutting, I’ll go ahead and browse the newbie forums and some older articles for more info.
