I too, wouldn’t call this an attack. It would still be mortifying if it ever happened, though, lol.
I was in Pattaya (sp?) Beach Thailand for a long weekend a few years back. A group of us rented Jet ski’s. I ended up just riding on the back and got tossed off a few times. The water was so nasty and murk I was sure something was going to grab me… I’ve never been so uncomfortable in the water in my life.
Swimming at Redondo beach I had the same sentiments.

Freezing cold and murkey as fuck, the fact a half eaten dolphin had been found at the pier a day prior also made me not go any further than waist deep lol.

A bull shark will still get you at waist deep (of course so will a croc…)

Where is Redondo?

Most shark attacks occur in less than 5 feet of water supposedly, I was just more comfortable at waist depth cause I was able to run the fuck out of there lol.

In L.A, great white central.

Most shark attacks happen at waist depth because that is where most people hang out while they are in the water. I imagine you are much more vulnerable when sharks are able to attack from below.

I don’t think attacks, in general, happen from below. I could be wrong though and obviously that doesn’t apply around the Horn of Africa (Seal Island).

They are more likely to bump into you in shallow water and may attack if they think you’re a decent source of food. I would rather be attacked in shallow water than deep water, that’s for sure.

Thank you! I always hated that “Fact”. It’s like the one I hear about most automobile fatalities happen within a 10 miles radius of persons home. No shit Captain Obvious. You know where people arn’t attacked by sharks? A mile inland.

Not the best pic but it was at night. My son who caught this little 5’ off the surf couldn’t believe he was swimming in that water 3 hr earlier.
