Neanderthal were supposedly just as intelligent as us. We just ended killing them off for some reason. We killed them and raped them. History repeated again with the conquistadors.

As if humans need a reason to kill off someone/something dissimilar to themselves. Lol.

After you get done watching ‘Prometheus’ for the 23rd time, can you
show us those peer reviewed papers on these alleged extraterrestrial harvesters?

It is completely impossible for multiple species to occupy exactly the same niche and coexist, one will out compete the other over a large time span. I’ve actually studied mathematics for ecology and there isn’t a single case that has been found in nature where 2 species coexist in this way, there have been a few which people at first thought were coexisting but actually turned out to be filling a slightly different role.
So it was inevitable that one of us would survive and the other would perish. But as has been said earlier in the thread, they have actually found neanderthal DNA in people, if your ancestors were from Europe it is highly likely you have some neanderthal DNA. I can’t remember the name of the hominid but likewise some Asians have been shown to contain DNA of a different hominid. So the evidence points to the fact that we just merged together, but with the much larger population of homo sapiens the integration of neanderthals didn’t make a huge difference over time.

whatever you are on, I want some
Yes, as already stated, N. could very well be more “intelligent” then us, as in: better at math, better at logic and reasoning etc.
What is interesting here: although the sample would be initially very small, a big deviation in intelligence would probably shine through. Precisely beause there is no N.-culture left, the specimen wouldn’t resort to hooting and spearhunting, ice-age style.
Also, the new(ly)bred species could have an extremely hard time emotionally, if they were anything like us.
One leading theory as to why we survived and Neanderthals didn’t is that we are far more sociable.
This meant we shared technologies and good hunting spots as well as trading women for such technologies and secrets.
This led to a faster evolution of ideas and adaptability as the ground work and research was done by someone else meaning you can spend that time on improving the idea.
The sharing of women through different tribes meant greater genetic diversity again increasing resistance to diseases and reducing negative mutations caused by inbreeding.

Is there reason to believe Neanderthals didn’t do these behaviors?
Yo Neanderthals, do you even genetic drift?

A lot of it will be comparison from the records of homo sapiens and Neanderthals.
You also have more obvious things like smaller tribes.
Greater distance between neighbouring Neanderthal tribes than with homo sapiens.
Similar technologies more wide spread with homo sapiens tribes.
Also biologically we have more complex vocal system and more developed language centres in the brain than the Neanderthals were thought to have.
Physically they could wrestle their prey to death. Intellectually they were thought to be our equals if not superiors as they have cave paintings/tools and other signs of intelligence.
We out competed them due to greater numbers and an ability to share and trade.
Trade and sharing is what determines a modern civilisations success. The ones who don’t are far behind those that do.
