Just got Rage for some quick run and gun fun between Skyrim sessions.
My god. Why did I not read the comment threads before getting it?
The whole concept behind the engine is such a catastrophic failure… First time I saw the screenshots I got a little suspicious (even commented on that here)… Well, things are far worse than I thought… The screens showed the game at it’s best.
Still a fun diversion and all, but… Man… And of course it’s a damn console port again… With mouse emulation instead of direct input… And you get to press the start button at the beginning… What’s next, you want me to put in a coin? One Euro for 3 lives?
Do they still make “pure” shooters nowadays that are thoroughly good?

I agree completely. Have you heard anything about Serious Sam 3 BFE? It actually looks like it may not be too bad…[/quote]
Screens were phantastic and some of the official vids, but watching some let’s plays and so on… I originally really wanted to get it, but now I don’t think so anymore… Would be fun to play co-op I’m sure, but man…
Gun sounds suck, and the effects from the first person suck too… Minigun is way too quiet (hell, the headless bombers will shout louder than any of your guns firing sounds) and it just doesn’t get the amount of shaking/vibration and big muzzle flash + huge fountains of sand/dirt that it should be doing. It looks really boring to use. Same for the assault rifle and shotgun and so on.
Laser gun’s projectiles travel way too slowly. What is this, fucking Star Wars?
The way they kill enemies also doesn’t look too cool…
I guess that’s my main beef. This game is about shooting lots of stuff. But the weapons seem rather dull… With the amount of work they put into the engine overall, you’d think they could have made the sound and the overall “oomph” effect of the guns better.
I mean, it doesn’t make sense to use a minigun against slow land targets usually, but serious sam has so many that you could actually justify it… So why not make it a cool weapon?
Really disappointing… I hope someone fixes that.
Battlefield 3, by comparison, did a much better job overall… Hits on the scenery kick up dust and make nice holes, even the tracers look cool.
Damn shame. Serious Sam 3 is too simplistic in it’s weapon/sound/combat representation.
