What about the people who are getting married for the second, third, fourth, fifth time? Is that raping the institution of marriage?

What about the people who are serial cheats and liars within their marriage? Is that raping the institution of marriage?

What about a heterosexual couple who gets married solely for tax breaks and shared insurance with no sexual or emotional connection. Is that raping the institution of marriage?

We must decide if we are talking “legitimate” rape or not

  1. Yes.
  2. Not in the same way, because it is not sanctioned by society.
  3. Maybe. Maybe not, if they maintain fidelity to each other despite their mercenary motives.

Does a beach full of trash need another candy wrapper thrown onto it?

You admit the problem isn’t isolated to a certain group, so your analogy is another piece of trash on a pile of trash is more insult than a piece of wisdom or realization for all of us.

Not trying to upset you or make an inflamatory remark, but think about voter fraud and imagine women and blacks weren’t allowed to vote. Would it be a reasonable argument to make stating that if blacks and women were allowed to vote, it would increase voter fraud? (more trash on trash analogy, more votes bring more fraud, so don’t allow people with black skin or humans with vaginas the right to vote)

I mean, it’s true that voter fraud would increase, but that in and of itself is an analogy whose roots are quite vile. I had to point this out to a biologist friend of mine once who was quite taken back when she realized it. Hope it makes sense to you too.

I’ll break it down further…
You wouldn’t make that analogy for voting rights, because it’s plainly discriminatory in logic. Once you make the logical connection you see the way it is exclusive is discriminatory. Keep an eye out for the analogy, initially it makes a lot of sense, but when you really investigate it, it’s pretty horrible.

Heteros are screwing marriage up therefore gays shouldn’t be allowed to marry. “They can’t join a broken institution because it’s broken!”

Not a real strong case.
