I haven’t seen any mention of Popeye’s in this thread, WTF? That’s the best national chain fried chicken, bar none. Give me a box of the spicy chicken with some red beans and rice and mashed potatoes w/ cajun gravy and I’m good to go.
Apparently you’ve never had Bojangles! If I suddenly stopped caring about my health, I would move into a Bojangles.
No, apparently you’ve never had Frenchy’s. Maybe that’s just a Texas thing. The french fries will kill you though. I think they’ve been known to stop a man’s heart from one bite.
If you have not had [b]Church’s/b or Louisiana Fried
( http://www.louisianafriedchicken.com/ ) you are missin’ out!, makes a joke of KFC and rivals Popeye’s…Butif you really want to get the ultimate fried chicken, go to Paula Deen’s Lady & sons restaurant in Savannah,Georgia, for the sunday brunch ( http://www.ladyandsons.com/ )
I swear it’s the only one comparable to the homemade stuff I had as a child! indescribablely delicious, I kid you not!! (I’m gettin’ wood just thinkin’ about it!HehHehHeh/
I have to jump in on this one. While I do like to indulge in fried chicken from time to time, without a doubt, hands down, the best Fried Chicken in the world is in Southern California at Honey Kettle Fried Chicken.
best fried chicken ever. and it’s not greasy. The chicken pieces are huge and crispy, taste best ever. And i’ve eaten at Popeye’s, KFC, Louisiani, Church’s, and Roscoe’s (which is shit in my opinion)
On a given day, the line is out the door.
If you are ever in Culver City check it out. You will be hooked.
KFC is the big one in kansas, but we also have Church’s, Go chicken Go, and popeyes. The chicken is OK, but the mash potatoes at go chicken go and kfc are out of this world.
I am amazed with how clean some of you people how your not any leaner then some of us people that have three square from a frying pan. I wonder if its just genetics, or if the clean eaters are not slipping their hands inot the cookie jar, or the tater chip sack.

I think it’s more that people make a larger deal than necessary about “eating clean” instead of simply “eating well”. I agree with you that I grew up in the south and it isn’t like the athletes I saw around me were only eating chicken breasts. My parents only allowed us fast food “occasionally” but didn’t make some huge deal about it as if it would kill you if you ever ate a hamburger. They just made sure MOST of our meals were balanced and healthy.
The blue moon when I’m having a hankering for fried chicken, I toss some bone-on, skin-on chicken thighs and breasts in a mixture of whole wheat flour, garlic salt, pepper, paprika and chicken seasoning spices lay out on a cookie sheet, spray with Butter Flavor Pam, and bake in the oven until golden and crispy.
I recently tried that “Dixie Fry” boxed chicken coating (although white flour, my guy’s comfort food includes fried chicken, and me being chinese thought this would taste better to him rather than my concoction), using the directions to bake the chicken, and it was really delicious.

Comfort food? Just having you around isn’t comforting enough to him ChinaDoll?
If you want the coating to stick, dip it in an egg(or egg white) and water mix first, then roll it in your coating (whole grain flour with seasoning salt, or any other spice you like, if you want to you can crumble up your favorite type of cracker for the crunchy effect then you fry it in your choice of oil or butter. The trick is to use thin cuts of chicken, or as I like to use, turkey cutlets or veal or pork cutlets. Once and awhile, this is a really nice treat with a great taste.

Aww, that’s sweet Barney! It’s a figure of speech, when you just want that down home cooking and when you have it, it brings back really nice childhood memories.
My guy’s comfort foods include Fried Chicken, Biscuits and Gravy, Cincinnatti Chili, soft serve ice cream cones and the like. Mine are things like steamed cabbage, salted duck eggs, shark’s fin soup and jasmine tea. Funny how it differs from culture to culture.
BTW, in Hawaii we eat fried chicken in a different way. It’s a mixture of different cultures. It’s called a “Bento” also known as a “Zip Pack”. A bed of hot soft white rice sprinkled with Furukake (seaweed/toasted sesame seeds), topped with one piece of fried chicken, one piece of teriyaki or breaded fried fish, one pice of thin teriyaki beef and one piece of seared Spam, garnished with pickled radish.
I know some T-Peeps are coming to Hawaii soon, and it would behoove you to have at least one “Bento” meal, this is very very Hawaii, most especially after you’ve been very active doing water sports all day long, such as surfing or kayaking from sunrise to the late afternoon…if you do this, you will have done as the locals typically do.
The most popular is the restaurant “Zippy’s” and having a Zip or Surf pack, or go to the local “Okazu-Ya” type of casual food establishment and build your own bento. But a bento typically contains some kind of fried chicken- either southern style or local/asian flare style (“Mochiko Chicken” or Sesame Chicken).

Well guys, I don’t see the point to nitpick on a few extra calories or a few notches up in the HI GI section if you only eat it say, once a week…? And the skin may be bad and contain saturated fat, but if that’s pretty much the only source of saturated fat you get the whole day or maybe even the whole week, is it still that big of a deal?
Yes, it’s a big deal, but not the way you might think.
If that’s really all the saturated fat you’re getting, you’re not getting enough. Your fat intake, according to Berardi, should be split evenly between saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated. Saturated fats improve T levels, among other things.
