^This is why we need to train monkeys to be engineers lol jk
If the monkey didn’t want to do it then we could just wait on Honda to come out with another robot. Seriously though it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have robots do this kind of work.

Also, even if the cost for the helicopter is more, consider how many hours it takes that dude to climb up and down that tower. I’m guessing it’s at least a 4 hour round trip.

He takes an elevator most of the way, it’s only the last couple hundred feet that he has to climb.
^Copy cat lol

I saw that after posting. If that’s true, then how can anyone justify not clipping in on the grounds that it will take too much time? How much time can it really add over a couple hundred feet?
There are far fewer injuries in free climbing compared to using a line or lead climbing…
BECAUSE YOU’RE DEAD IF YOU FUCK UP

Citation, please.
Fuck. That. Shit.
I watched this just the other day, my palms were sweating. CRAZY.
And I’d for sure wear a parachute. They must, right?
Check out this video. Equally, if not more insane than the first one.
Some people speculate that he’s wearing a parachute, but I don’t think so. BASE jumping parachutes usually have straps that go around the groin…his backpack doesn’t.
If anyone knows Greek, he will shit himself laughing at the songs lyrics…
Btw, TERRIBLE form on the pullups, not sufficient range of motion and lower body kicking.

I was looking for one when watching the video but I didn’t see one so I guess not.
Seriously though… people shouldn’t be doing that job, we are far enough along to have robotics take over. People may say that it takes jobs away when doing that but think about how many more jobs there will be in designing and building the technology. Plus someone still has to operate the machine while it is in use so there will be a gain in jobs. I just don’t think it is humane to have people put themselves in danger even when they willingly do so. Any thoughts?

So what? He’d doing all the climbing AFTER he takes the elevator. It’s not like he’s climbing a few hundred feet up and then taking the elevator the rest of the way.
I couldn’t count to five up there nevermind fix something…I think the vomiting and crying like a bitch would also be a issue. My leg muscles were burning just watching that. I would demand a parachute and base jumping training lol. That would be a very descent.
I can run up a sturdy ladder but leaning over the railing at the mall makes my legs jello.

I wont even go near the railings. I’m terrified someone will run up from behind and push me over.

True there is a difference. I just believe this entire situation can be avoided if people were more innovative with technology. It’s just barbaric to have people climb at those heights and I know many people would agree with that.
I was a tower technician for 5 years. I have never been up that high only around 1200’ but it only takes a few feet to kill you, just have longer fall to kiss your ass goodbye the higher you are…

Most towers don’t have an elevator, I have been on several over 1000’ that I had to climb the entire way… I’m sure this guy works his ass off every day.

how do you even get into that line of work?

No, I don’t agree with the whole robot thing. If people voluntarily do the job then they should be able to do it. Just because you don’t have the balls doesn’t mean other people can’t do the job they enjoy. I was thinking about doing this type of stuff once I get back to the States. It seems unique and exciting, also I hear the pay is muy bueno!
Look through this thread… you’re a minority if you would think this is fun. This has nothing to do with having balls by the way and it has everything to do with being innovative to make the job easier. Wouldn’t you rather your job be made easier and safer and still be able to be paid the large sum of money you described?
