i don’t get it …how can you screw him if he’s not putting up his own money ? at the very least he’s still getting play and an opportunity to deal w/ another person and another bank and collect a little more info on how things are done so he can refine the scam. plus aren’t you just contributing to some innocent guy’s loss ? also if you were to deposit the money why wait six months - why not just close the account and take the cash ?
Damn you swivel…
Okay so I get the check to my newly opened PO Box.
Assuming it isn’t an innocent man’s money…
I cash it in a bank accound and then immediately close the account.
So here is the catch now…
A) How do I make sure the bank doesn’t give him my info
B) What if it later bounces and I already closed the account
C) Is there anything else I need to cover my ass.
I know I shouldn’t be doing this… Damn it. Temptations!

Chances are, your account would not be officially closed until all transactions have been cleared.
As I said before, talk to a bank officer and ask them to put a collection on the check without linking it to your account number. They probably would do this for you if you explain the situation. It might take a few days longer than normal, but its worth it to save your ass.
I know something was mentioned before about having the check made out to a false name…that would be utterly stupid. You would have absolutely no way to cash it if you did that. The bank would want ID to cash the check, and they wouldn’t deposit it into your account if the other “person’s” name wasn’t on the account.
