For Those Born in the 80's...

Yeah, not just hair, but also clothing styles, music, teh aidz, etc.
Did popular music during the 80s suck? Yes. That doesn’t mean that there wasn’t any good music in the 80s, though. The Pixies and The Flaming Lips both formed then.
I only said that the glam-hair-bands sucked.
Otherwise I was HEAVILY into Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, Husker Du, Black Flag, and most of the underground American Hardcore punk scene.

During the 80’s I:

 1. Pegged my pantlegs
 2. Thought Aerosmith was some new cool shit
 3. Spent countless hours knocking out my buddies with sleeper holds and pressing on their sternums
 4. Thought my Pony high-tops were the best shoes ever
 5. Listened to “Robin Williams Live at the Met” over and over again
 6. Same with “Liscence to Ill”
 7. Same with Tone Loc
 8. Would ride my bike to my grandmas (6-is miles) to meet up with cousins to watch Yo MTV Raps
 9. Was incredibly dissapointed with the Masters of the Universe movie
 10. Recited lines from “Predator” all day long
 11. Hid the Vanna White Playboy under my bed
 12. Kept another copy of it in the barn
 13. Insisted Greg Louganis was a better athlete than Carl Lewis
 14. Wanted to be Lawrence Taylor
 15. Wanted to be Dexter Manley
 16. Became a pseudo Dodgers fan when Kirk Gibson left the Tigers
 17. Wondered why Bill Laimbeer couldn’t play DE for the Lions (kept me up at night)
 18. Shot jumpers like Vinnie Johnson
 19. Tried giving my first GF the mouthguard off my football helmet as a keepsake
 20. Thought Saginaw was a big city
 21. Hated David Lee Roth for leaving Van Halen
 22. Jacked off to the picture on the inside cover of “Appetite for Distruction” and knew I was twisted
 23. Grew a mullet in '89, had it long enough to know it was a terrible idea
 24. Snuck Miller High Life’s out of grandpas fridge during the summers
 25. Met Bo Schembechler for the first of three times.

That about sums it up.

Weird how growing up in the 80’s seems so innocent in comparison to how kids are growing up now.

Same here. Hardcore ftw.

I was also into Alternative Rock in the '80’s

However I completely disagree that all pop in teh 80’s was shit. There were some wonderful pop songs in the '80’s.

Here’s a list:

Wouldn’t it Be Good by Nick Kershaw, Eyes Without A Face by Billy Idol, True by Spandeau Ballet, It’s My Life by Talk Talk, Take On Me by Aha, More Than This by Roxy Music, Something So Strong by Crowded House, Always Something There To Remind Me by Naked Eyes, Cars by Gary Numan, Souvenir, by OMD, I Can’t Wait by Nu Shooz, Cruel Summer by Bannanarama, Drive by The Cars, I Can Dream About You by Dan Hartman, Don’t You Froget About Me by Simple Minds, Things Can Only Get Btter by Howard Jones, Cest La Vie by Robbie Nevil…

these are just a few I can name. All pop, all decent.

Husker Du was great but never really found out about them till the 90’s. Still listen to Bob Mould CD’s and I got to see him live here in SD a couple years ago. Dude still plays really fucking loud. It’s cool.

Frost I’m dissapointed in your Howard Jones selection. “No One is to Blame” is still a great song.

And I’d like to add any song that got radio play from Steve Windwood too. Pure 80’s gold.

Oh and Billy Ocean as well. haha.

I honestly thought that the 80s was like this movie.

Yep! Saw him live at a bar in Philly a year or so ago. I recalled back in the 80’s that he was fat. Then at this particular Philly show, only a guitar, effects pedals, and amp were on stage when a thin dude in a hooded sweatshirt came out to “set up” for Bob. Then later when Bob came out to play, I realized it was he who was setting up earlier! He was doing his own roadie-ing!

It was awesome hearing him play old Husker Du songs with the same attitude, volume, and ferocity of old days. You’d never have guessed he’s an out-of-the-closet homo.

In the 80’s I was gettin’ laid while you fucks were shitting your pants and fapping off to Care Bears.

Not much has changed I see.

:stuck_out_tongue:

Iron Dwarf-- I had “Jake E. Lee” hair down to me ass.

Don’t forget that the 80’s was also the begining of Slayer, Metallica, Megadeath and Anthrax.

LOL!

If you were born in the 80’s then you don’t know the 80’s. You may know of the 80’s and all the cool stuff, the best cartoons, best TV shows and start of the best home video games and actually the best Arcades, which are getting harder to find. You have to be born in the 70’s to have TRUELY experience the 80’s. To be 10, 11 12 yrs old in the early 80’s was the best time because we were old enough to get these experiences. If you were born in 81, 82, 83 you didn’t watch (or new you were watching)he man, transformers etc… The shitty 90’s was your time.

Agreed. Some of these posts don’t even make sense considering they must have been fucking one year old when they “experienced” it.

The original video posted mentioned playing goldeneye on N64 - this thread is about the 80s and all of the experiences that accompanied being born in the 80s.

In 1985 the world got a little more lanky.

No, its not. Born in the 80’s, gained experience in the 90’s, and wasted our lives on the internet in the 2000’s.

The title mentions “Born in the 80s” not “Experiences during the 80s”.

Then why are people listing movies from the 80’s when they were born in 85?

If you were born in the 80’s, unless it was maybe 81 or 82, you don’t remember shit about that decade at all.

Im pretty sure they didnt watch the video posted in the original post as well. The video mentions “ICQ” and “N64 GoldenEye” products of 90s. It was a misconception of “Born in” and “Growing up in”
