Fishing 2011

22 pound pike.
I went back a week later and caught it again, i could tell it was the same fish because she had a mark on her tail, and she was the same weight. caught on a lure, large salmo skinner, great one for pike. real roach pattern.

sorry squiggles i have no recipes, i always put the pike back. but i keep a few perch here and there as bait. same for roach.

theres a lake near me that is rumoured to have a 40 pound pike caught recently, and is only catchable at night, so i am thinking of trying out for that one
Nice!

Was working one of my older driftboats down a river that’s had it’s share of dangerous spots this year and we hit some sweet Steelie’s.

Great workout on the oars and rods

My buddy with a handful
Also nice!

Thanks All

Well all wild steelhead have to be released snd we try and do it quickly, def high teens, we boat 20 lb plus pounders, All Hatcheries are killed and we get lots of 10 to high teens with the odd over 20 lb Hatch.

Here’s a large hatchery, same river

Just got this last Friday. It snowed on Sunday. Been out once so far - zero bites. Going out tonight after work, I hear.

If I was to get a boat that would be it, bowriders are the shit. Hope you have a great first season with it. If you plan on keeping it for awhile are you going to name it? My buddies is called the “Fishin’ Magican” lol.

Hey SkyzykS do you think those Aussi lures would work here?, they should.

My guess would be yes. They have good coloring to them and look like they would make a good bit of noise. If you can mix and match what the fish are feeding on, they would probably work pretty well.

Thats a nice steelhead. My year for them wasn’t so good. They were few and far between, and the ones I did manage to run into were very passive.
Yeah, out of the three I landed none of them were jumpers, however I was way above them on a steel harbour wall with a ten foot noodle rod so maybe if I was at river level they would have, no idea.

The little pond I fish in(other thread has pics) has no real structure on the bottom, mostly sunken sticks from the beavers. It’s an abandoned gravel pit so it’s really just a 1 1/2 acre puddle. The deepest it gets is nine feet.

So, my idea(stolen from the internetz lol) is to sink some old xmas trees with chain and cinder blocks in the two best spots to hopefully attract the big ones who will use it as an ambush sight. Sounds good on paper. Ideally I should have already done this while there was a foot of ice on it.

Thoughts?

Here are some designs for habitat structure from the PFBC- http://fishandboat.com/habitat.htm

Thanks for the link bud. Just looked through some of them, very cool but a little too labour intensive on some of the progects. The big wooden framed one I’d worry about getting hung up on all the time. The trees should be easy to drag my lure through and not get snagged, again, sounds good on paper lol.

How cool would it be to have your own private pond to make from scratch, kinda like a golf course, map it all out and then go make it. I’d be addicted to making improvements constantly.

I’ve thought about that a few times. Like an underwater golf course for fishing. There’s a spring creek one county over that I like to fish like an obstacle course. Each pool as it falls down the mountain has its own little tricks and angles to it, like low hanging hemlock branches and eddy pools that will pull you out of the drift. Hit them just right and its fish on, but hit them wrong and you have to try again or get your fly out of the tree. At the bottom is the putting green where a bunch pool up. You can just pop flies on there all day long and catch brooks and rainbows anywhere from an inch long to 16"-18".

Here’s one of 12 today, some large mid teeners, some med chromers, couple kelts
and 2 busted off!

Workin gear, throwing gooey bobs, pink dinks and corkie & yarn

Great leg work, workin canyons, climbing over blow downs and bushwackin haha

There is no head, like steelhead!

Sorry man our Steelhead that are Wild are all released, not allowed to kill them but our hatchery ones (2 per day) are and so good to eat! (missing anipose fin)
But Salmon(5 types), trout(over 6 types) and bass etc… all are open, but still have to watch Regs as they can closed in some rivers or lakes at certain times.

Freak another season of not fishing. I’mma go buy a fishing pole and see if I can’t find a damn piece of water to sit next to. Anybody know anything in N. Arizona?

Nevermind, I’m going bass fishing tomorrow out of Lake Mary. Hopefully…let you know if I catch anything.

Oh question, I’ve tried this before but in terrible spots (still got a few hits and reeled in one), but anyone ever try flick shaking?

Actually my brother in law tried this. I was up 3-0 on him. 20 minutes later it was 3-13. Guess who was ahead lol.

It’s that good, eh? I guess I’ll have to put an order online to get my stuff sent here!

Like anything, it’s all about technique and takes some time to master. I think the species is also very dependent. Above we were reeling in english redfin perch which love chasing lures. Trout, bass I would imagine are much the same.

I’m not that great at it. I like to think that my gear is the issue.

But I bet it isn’t.

AAahh Sunny Spring, some late season steelheading, releasing an big old buck.

Still some rivers cranking out Winter Steelies and soon the Summer steelies will be entering.

Fly fishing is about to explode with huge caddis and March brown hatches on our rivers, we get rainbows, cutts and browns.

Saltwater Hali’s are rocking and large Chinooks very soon!

Hope all are fishing and catching else where!!!
