Films That Didn't Quite Hit The Mark

A very good point, Magnus. The Bourne Identity was the biggest letdown I’ve ever experienced at the movie theatre. If you haven’t read the book, you’ll probably like this movie; however, I have practically memorized the book, and frankly, I don’t see how they can even get away with giving that movie the same name. (I’ve heard that there is an older Bourne movie that is much better, but haven’t found it yet.) While I did enjoy the first two Jurassic Park movies, they were also nothing compared to the books. I don’t even want to talk about the third Jurassic Park. I’ve got to agree that they did an EXCELLENT job with The Fellowship of the Ring, (a good book that I didn’t think would make a very good movie) and I can’t wait to see the next one. And don’t forget, guys, at least one good thing came out of Robin Hood: “Robin Hood: Men in Tights” !!!

Starship Troopers was a big letdown. I remember seeing the previews for it and they were the greatest previews I have ever seen in my entire life (no lie people should be forced to study the Starship Troopers previews in film classes). But Alas, the cast was poor, the plot not really developed and the characters I didn’t really give a shit whether they lived or were unmercifully slaughtered by the bugs.

Starship Troopers was actually a Hollywood piss-take by a Dutch director, christ didn’t you notice the whole ‘saved by the bell’ theme throughout the film, a load of lovesick 16 year olds battling to save the earth and beach blondes fighting on the front line (snigger.) If you take the film seriusly it would be undoubtedly the most steaming pile of horse-shit ever however as a piss take it works, tell me you actually took that film seriously for christ sake?

Biggest movie letdowns? Hmmmm. Let’s start with “Magnolia”–had to be the dummest movie I’ve seen. It was torture to sit through. I won’t go see another Tom Cruise movie because he’s gotten too weird for my liking. Recently, I’d have to say “Monster’s Ball”. Although Billie Bob and Halle Berry acted well, the movie was so depressing and had so very little point. Either that, or because it’s summer time, my mind has completely gone to mush and I didn’t get the point of this seemingly pointless film. As for “Dr. T and the Women”–really really stupid.

No Del Boy, halfway through the movie I couldn’t contain my laughter. The Diz death scene is the funniest, “Don’t let me go johnny! don’t let me go!” hahahahha…pathetic

Flame me as you will, but I hate everything…and I mean EVERYTHING that Keanu Reeves has ever been in. He is the worst actor ever. Jonny pneumonic was the least offensive, but still awkward and clumsily acted, and the River’s Edge was only barable because of the good actors who propped up that sorry bastard. (Crispin Glover and Dennis hopper…)

I put it on another thread, but let’s see if patricia will bash my opinion on two different threads(jk). Minority Report just plain sucked. They should have just shown the preview again at the theater…it was 10x as good as the actual film.

Two films that have received much critical praise but I didn’t think they were that great (compared to the adulation they received) were Citizen Kane and The Godfather. Still I know they are classics to many other people. Different stokes I guess.

Where the Boy’s Aren’t 10, didn’t live up to the previous 9 adult film blockbusters. Had the star power yet fizzled.
