Slightly odd question but i ask it in all seriousness. I’m totally unhappy with my unpumped physique. Once im in the gym having a good shoulders and arms workout, i look acceptable with a full pump in those muscle groups. Will that pumped state eventually become what i look like out of the gym, say once i’ve gained size AND gotten leaner at that size? It’s the lateral delts and arms that make me look better because they add some weight and width to my very narrow upper body. If i can attain that pumped size and more, it gives me some good motivation. I’m 6’1 202lbs like 17% BF and VERY bottom heavy, so i need to balance it out and get a less feminine physique!
Then you need to gain alot of muscle and body weight.
If you still have to jump down and do push ups before you take the trash out just so you look extra swole…just realize that;
1.) Every guy who lifts has done that at least once
2.) Only newbs who aren’t that big do shit like that
3.) Yes, the goal is to be big enough to NOT have to run and do some curls real quick just so you look better for 30min in a club shirt.
Thanks for the reply, prof. I’ve read a lot of your posts and agree with your approach. I’ve gained just under 70lb since i started lifting. Only trouble is body composition is starting to get bad and conditioning is terrible. I will have to maintain then cut a bit once i get to about 210lb, for health reasons mostly. My goal is 200lbs at 10% nothing too extreme but it will still be a long hard road to be that size. If my shoulders and arms can fill out to pumped size and bigger, without my lower body getting wider, then i feel i have the potential to be more happy with my build.

Prof knows his shit. I think you should probably add a bit of “easy” cardio. You don’t need to be a cardio junkie–because quite obviously doing a ton of cardio really slows how fast you can add size–but a couple times a week probably needs to go in if you feel like your composition and cardio is really getting bad. It’s healthy.
Second I would look at re-adjusting your training, although without any details its really hard to give any thoughts. But basically, cut some of the rest periods down and look at higher volume. I’m not talking about “light weights for cutting”, just talking about not resting fully. That will help your conditioning too. One general approach I have used in the past is to do the first 1-2 exercises heavy, with mostly full rest, and then do the last 2-3 exercises of the day with lower rest periods and higher reps. That way you get some heavy work in and also get to increase volume and density.
