Favourite/Worst Actors

I agree with most of the favorite actors, but no mention of Benicio del Toro? Some of his performances are phenomenal.

Odd fact- He went to school with a buddy of mine over in south central PA.

If Paul Newman was still with us, they could have made a film where he stars alongside Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Hugh Jackman and Gene Hackman with cameos from Jeff Speakman and Scott Speedman.

Directed by George Tillman.

Russell Crowe is the best
Jeremy Renner is great

Will Smith blows dog balls

Favorites
Sigourney Weaver - Can do it all: drama, action, thriller, comedy.
Natalie Portman - Sincere/believable in whatever she’s doing.
Val Kilmer - He can still bring it when he wants to.
Ben Foster - Super intensity, and we share a birthday.

Least Favorite
Josh Hartnett - 30 Days of Night (another great Ben Foster performance) was the closest I’ve come to liking him in anything. Other than that, he just seems awkward and out of place.
Sasha Baron Cohen - Simply not funny, and staying in-character while promoting each film is tiresome.

And for whatever it’s worth, Nic Cage’s last good movie was 8mm.

My major problem with Cage is that he never lets you forget that he’s an actor playing a role. Even in his ‘everyman’ roles he behaves in a way that he’d never get away with in real life. It’s behaviour that he can get away with on a movie set as Nic Cage the actor, but not on the street. Very self indulgent.
This is a great way to put it. I think the opposite is what distinguishes a great actor. You look at really good ones like Edward Norton or Kevin Spacey, and in every single role, you forget you are watching someone playing a role. I don’t know what the trick is, but a good actor somehow seems completely natural and believable.
I have to say, reluctantly because I still enjoy his work, I think Christopher Walken has kinda fallen into this trap the last few years.

Ages ago, he seemed to try harder (but that’s not exactly what I mean). But recently he seems to be “Chris Walken as a gangster” or “Chris Walken as a husband/dad.” Know what I mean?

I liked “Lucky Number Slevin” but thought he was the wrong guy for “30 Days of Night.” Just felt forced.

The head vampire in 30 days of night was creepy as hell.

Favourites:

Anthony Hopkins
Denzel Washington
Jason Statham
John Travolta
Morgan Freeman
Edward Norton
Al Pacino
Clint Eastwood

Nick Cage is a pretty good actor in the right role. Some roles were a clear ‘taking the piss’ scenario (Wicker Man), others were a flop because his style of acting didn’t suit what the character eg Con Air. He was pretty good in GI60S though.

Best - Pete Postlethwaite (god rest his soul)

Worst - Shite le boof

He said in an magazine interview that he never turns down a job. Also, when he’s given a script, he only reads the scenes that he is in…

Sylvester Stallone for being the hero of my childhood

Robert Downey Junior

Nicholas Cage - i admire his gut for making thousands of movies and making me enjoy his style even on bad movies.

Agree on Schwimmer. Awful. You can add that other dude from Friends as well. Actually all 3 dudes suck.

lol

I liked him in Con Air. It was a Jerry Bruckheimer movie (never going to be Chekov) and he wasn’t as wildly OTT as he can be - although he seemed to have ripped off Van Damme’s look in Hard Target (see pics). He was also restrained in The Rock. Maybe he just needs to be within slapping distance of Sean Connery to cut the hamming.

I bet Cage is a director’s nightmare. He just seems to do what he wants to do. A good actor should be able to modify their acting style to the movie. Cage just seems to turn up, chew as much scenery as possible, then go home.

Van Damme in Hard Target…

Cage in Con Air…
