Excuses are the refuge of the weak.
Prayer cleanses the soul, but pain cleanses the body.
A mind without purpose wanders in dark places.
Despair is a sign of weakness.
Doubt is a sign of weakness.

Respect human talent, respond to genius, recognize reality, admire truth and beauty, realize the meaning of the rare flower Reason. -Zarlenga
“Perfect love is rare indeed - for to be a lover will require that you continually have the subtlety of the very wise, the flexibility of the child, the sensitivity of the artist, the understanding of the philosopher, the acceptance of the saint, the tolerance of the scholar and the fortitude of the certain.” -Buscaglia
The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he’s always doing both.
This year, or this month, or, more likely, this very day, we have failed to practice ourselves the kind of behavior we expect from other people.
-CS Lewis
If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning: just as, if there were no light in the universe and therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never know it was dark. Dark would be without meaning.
-CS Lewis
All that we call human history–money, poverty, ambition, war, prostitution, classes, empires, slavery–[is] the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy.
-CS Lewis
For all that we struggle
For all we pretend
It don’t come down to nothing
Except love in the end
And ours is a road
That is strewn with goodbyes
But as it unfolds
As it all unwinds
Remember your soul is the one thing
You cant compromise
Take my hand
Were gonna go where we can shine
David Gray - from the song Shine

“Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe, is that none of it has tried to contact us.”
attributed to the Marvel comic book assassin Elektra
Human beings never think for themselves, they find it too uncomfortable. For the most part, members of our species simply repeat what they are told – and become upset if they are exposed to any different view. The characteristic human trait is not awareness but conformity, and the characteristic result is religious warfare. Other animals fight for territory or food; but, uniquely in the animal kingdom, human beings fight for their ‘beliefs.’ The reason is that beliefs guide behavior, which has evolutionary importance among human beings. But at a time when our behavior may well lead us to extinction, I see no reason to assume we have any awareness at all. We are stubborn, self-destructive conformists. Any other view of our species is just a self-congratulatory delusion.
– Michael Crichton, The Lost World
He who knows not and knows not that he knows not is a fool; avoid him.
He who knows not and knows that he knows not is a student; teach him.
He who knows and knows not that he knows is asleep; wake him.
He who knows and knows that he knows is wise; follow him.

“Empty your mind. Be formless. Shapeless. Like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a tea pot, it becomes the tea pot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend…”

Do not fear so much death, but rather the inadequate life. --Bertolt Brecht.
That was a strong words thing a while back. It’s most likely my favorite quote of all time.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Might have already been posted but for this site bears repeating: “The Iron never lies to you. The Iron will always kick you the real deal. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go, but 200 pounds is always 200 pounds.”-Henry Rollins
" …the only things of value which we have at present are our arms and our courage. So long as we keep our arms we fancy that we can ake good use of our courage; but if we surrender our arms we lose our lives as well.
