Mornin’ TK!

I’m feeling productive today. This has potential to be both useful and scary. I tend to get a little overzealous on days like this. HERE WE GO!

Lol what size stones do you train with? I mean starting out, not like you start with the 300 lb fuckers right.

Haha yeah you’re right. I haven’t done anything but lap the 300 stone yet, but I haven’t really tried it recently so loading it might happen today.

I started with a 200 lb stone. Getting the technique right is most of the battle, and I’m still learning it. But once you have an idea of how to move the lighter stone, I moved up to the 250-270 lb stones, because that’s what most of my competition weights are.

I had a very smart man tell me that the key to stones is volume, so doing a 5x5 will help you way more than doing a bunch of super heavy singles.

Also, you can probably buy the molds and make the stones way nicer than trying to find some to train with. Slater makes the ones I think most people use, but I think there’s another competitor out there that makes great molds too. I’ll get back to you on that this afternoon.

based on what I know about the general level of knowledge about math among my own age bracket…maybe that’s not such a bad thing

I’m trying to teach my kids how to ‘cheat’ on solving math faster.

I love short cuts in math … as long as you understand how you got the answer there’s no problem with it

okay:

6/2(1+2)

6/2(3)

6/6

1

amirite? no iamnot

6/2(1+2)

6/2(3)

3(3)

9

amirite? yup iamrite

Order of operation parentheses exponents multiplication division addition subtraction. But multiplication and division are the same so you would go left ot right.

Thing is, the above, from what I gather is a shit formula and either answer should be excepted, but the more advanced math peeps will give you 9.

That’s because the problem would be laid out like this if you actually wrote it out.

6(1+2)

2

To get one you’d have to write it out like this: 6/(2(1+2))

More math Fun.

It is typically usurious to compound on late fees and add’l interest. So people will typically just charge the state limit and represent it in terms of “per month” to draw your attention away from 1% per month is 12% per year.

Often times, in valuations and pricing models banks and financial institutions will use a 360 day year to calc everything out. But when they are calc’ing out the amount of interest you pay them, they will use the extra 5 days.

Of course! Banks always win…

I am preparing a feast for tonight which includes scallops, shrimps, and homemade sausage of porc, lamb and duck.

Only the strong will survive.

YEAH MATH TALK!

No, it’s “new math”.

The new math goes left to right, instead of right to left, how we learned it. We learned it by doing in in “columns”: the one’s column, tens column, hundreds column. They now do it in reverse.

So:

2011
+
1998

4009

Correct?

The way they NOW do it is guestimating:

2011
+
1998

???

currently enjoying a maple syrup flavored beer and it is as awesome as it sounds.

ignoring all math talk

Main, I’m jelly.

In other news, I loaded the 300lb stone today! Woohoo PRs!
