hai guyz
question- so tomorrow i am building a fence in my backyard, no big deal. well the guy who is helping me says he never premixes cement he digs the hole, inserts fence post drops in cement soaks with hoseā¦
will that work in any way or form? ive laid cement before but ive always been premixed this guy seems real confidant in his ways. insight? [/quote]
yep~
put the post in the ground, put in the dry cement straight from the bag, pick the post up, just enuf to ensure that you have concrete under the post and have it completely surrounded so as not to have contact with the dirt to rot.
then level, stringline to make sure it is in line with the other posts and then soak the dry cement. take a piece of steel or rebar to tamp the concrete to make sure it mixes a little, then ā¦
Viola!
trippy the first time you do it, but now I wouldnt do it any other way. beats the hell out of mixing the concrete in a wheelbarrow.
btwā¦a little piece of triviaā¦it is cement, until you place it, then it becomes concrete.
andā¦the Romans discovered concrete as we know it today, back in 75 BC.
I think if the hole is big enough, it wouldnāt really matter too much FF. Youāre just setting posts in the ground, not laying down a driveway or sidewalk, so I doubt you need to be super critical and precise with it.

You CAN do it his way, but it would be a pain in the ass if you add too much water. Then, you have to add more cement and mix it in the hole⦠youāre taking a chance of making the cement weak.
If you mix it outside the hole, you have a better chance to get the mixture to the consistency you want.
Either way, if your friend has done this consistently, then it will probably be ok.
Personally, iād prefer to mix it THEN putting it into the hole. Just my 2 cents.

Concrete and cement are not the same mix, Edgy.
Concrete has more stone/gravel added to it. While cement is mostly sand.
Iām not a pussy. I mix my cement with a shovel, 2 bags at a time.
Itās like a GPP workout.

thanks for all the responses guys. yeah hes done it before at both his house and his mothers and ive seen/kicked both to make sure they were sturdy, so i assume it will work. just wanted to see all of your guysā thoughts. its cement not concrete i believe lol.
ill let yall know how it goes tomorrow. its suppose to rain here during the day, but seeing as were not premixing it i suppose a little rain can only help, at least thats what im convincing myself of since its the only day both of us have off at the same time for the next month or so and my current fence is so shitty that i have random objects blocking holes in it so my dog doesnt get out, if you saw it youd think i was the guy in the wife beater at the middle school gradutation!!!
Fuck the fence, concertina wire FTW.
Just went to the vet and spend 4 bills on my dog Rocko. My MRI wasnāt even half that.
my MRI was $2700
So, hi! Did laundry, just made spaghettiā¦now the smell is making me nauseousā¦
