Hello folks. Finally hit a goal that I’d been aiming for for a long time. 205x1 on the push press. Now to hit that for a strict military press…
Really? I hit that when I was a Sophomore in high school (I also am a jock so, eh)? Not bad though, I am sure men now are lucky to 100 on the push press from what I see walking around.
My pressing movements have always sucked. That and my left shoulder’s dislocated three times. Not an excuse as I need to improve them, but every little PR is nice.
Oh, just looked at your picture. Got you mixed up with the wrong person (you changed your avatar), not bad brother good progress. Yeah, I remember my first shoulder dislocation, that was a blast.
I don’t know if you read anything on what Jim Wendler said about the MP, but he’s got some good stuff.
I am not sure if you have ever practiced the clean and jerk, that is where I got good at the Push Press was racked jerks. As warm ups I’d do push presses.
It’s kind of a multi-joint movement, so when you start the movement you have that first little bounce to get the momentum. Then, (you may have to look up c&j videos to figure this out) you drop your hips down, while pushing up and then stand up.
- Bounce for momentum
- Push
- Drop hips
- Lock-out
- ???
- Profit
Also another thing that helps is if you use your lats as shelves.
Goodluck and Godspeed on losing weight brother.
Thanks for the tips, seriously.
Though to be honest it’s more of a standing MP with a little leg drive, I just call it an MP so that if I ever post a vid the form police won’t come in and tell me my legs move too much.
