Yeah and I saw a woman doing them with her hands at a complete right angle to her body. Not sure if I’m describing that correctly. I thought the elbows were supposed to stay close to your side, right?

Could be, but elbows flared is tougher on the shoulders for me.
Elbows back during pushups, better for the shoulders. Hands close together, elbows flaring out, or “diamond pushups” are tricep killers.
