I’ve been involved in politics and public policy a long time. You’re right, you shouldn’t trust politicians and there are puppetmasters. So, why am I involved? I do it because I am still naive enough to believe that somehow I can make a difference.

For those of you who don’t know but may care, I was on the Planning Commission in my town for about 10 years and had worked on various campaigns, assembly, Congress, mayoral, City Council, State Senate, County Supervisor, etc… Had dinners and lunches,face to face meetings, been invited to homes for dinners, and even ran for a City Council position and can tell you all from experience, that all…ALL not a few but all politicians are full of shit.
The only way to make it in that business is to be a good liar or stupid. you’d be suprised at the lawmakers that can’t even spell or hold a cognizant thought in their head, but are able to hold on to a seat because the party or the special interest want him/her there.
I hate that I am so jaded about the process, because as screwed up as it is…it is still the best country in the world.

I spent a few days in Canada over the summer, the hickish parts are less hickish than the states. My family up there barely went to college, and they are all loaded beyond belief. I have a cousin that dropped out of college, became a programmer, made $250k a year at 19 yrs old, went back to school so he could make moar.
Plus free crappy health care is still a million times better than Mass Health
