John Malkovich is great, I love that one he was in where he played the jewel thief.
This was one of the better movies that I would consider “date movie” category that I have seen.

Kahuna have you seen Lucky Number Slevin? If so what did you think of it. I am interested in your take on my personal favorite movie.
I have, but I saw it the year that it came out and I expect that to have been quite a while ago by now, and so I don’t necessarily trust that the opinions I had then are exactly the same as I would have now with a more acute eye. Though I do remember enjoying it and feeling that it was one of the more under-appreciated of the films I remember hearing of at the time.

It would be unfair of me to try and draw it all from memory, so I will slot it into my schedule and watch it some time in the week and then get back to you on it, likely in this thread.

Alright, I’ll check in and out. For the cast that movie had, and I think the caliber movie it was, very few people seem to have seen it.

Do you have some sort of angsty vendetta here? I remember Josh Hartnett being seemingly innocent, but then turning out to be a mastermind and killing two people of different religious backgrounds, one of which is a kind of jew mafia boss when they’re tied back to back in chairs and he suffocates them with plastic bags. And I remember something about an airport and Bruce Willis being a hitman. What I do remember is entirely superficial and doesn’t account for the backbone of the film and all of it’s roots, so I’m going to see it again to refresh myself with more than what’s on the surface, because when I saw it I was in my early teens and less experienced with film than in the years since.

Ben Kingsley and Morgan Freeman are the mob bosses, Hartnett befriends his neighbor Lucy Liu along the way. Hartnett has some mental thing where he is incapable of worry. I think the fact that this movie was one of the few that got me with its plot twist (figured it out just seconds before the reveal and that was by accident because my friend said that kid looks like Hartnett) so I have liked it ever since. Revenge movie with a plot twist that caught me way of guard. Hooked.

I entirely forgot Lucy Liu was in it, or even that the other guy was Morgan Freeman for that matter. I’ll put it on priority and get back to you soon. From what I remember, I didn’t see the twist coming at the time, at all. I wonder if knowing the twist will make it better or worse the next time around. Whether it becomes an Alien or a Usual Suspects. (Both brilliant whenever you see them of course, but Alien does have itself betting on the unknown a little more physically and doesn’t have the cunning appreciation of knowing who Keyser Soze is as the film plays out.)

Exactly. You tell me if anybody who saw the movie would forget that Kingsley and Freeman were in it… and he spoilered the fuck out of the plot after I said he hadn’t seen it.

Maybe but I have seen him say that he hasn’t seen a particular movie before. Plus if he would of had to look up spoilers wouldn’t Freeman and Kingsley’s names have come up since that played as prominent of a role as Willis and Liu?

I remembered that Kingsley was in it, but I forgot that Freeman specifically was the other mob boss, because I haven’t seen it in a long time and there are some things that I forget with time, it took me ten minutes to even remember Josh Hartnett’s name. A few days ago I was trying to talk about Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf and completely forgot Richard Burton’s name and the name of the person who directed the film, it’s just something that happens.

Of course I ran through the plot, how else was I expected to convey that I had indeed seen it? Now maybe I spoiled some major moments and would have been better served putting up a warning, but those are the things that I remember, maybe mostly because they are at the forefront of the movie itself.

I’m not sure what your intent has been on these last few conversations, and what kind of purpose they are supposed to serve you. Slevin was not as personally connectible to me as it were with bpick and has been largely lost among the countless others I see, think about, and then never really think about too much again until the time arises that they become relevant. If I had not seen it, I would have said that I had not seen it, because lying about that would add nothing to the conversation and would have ended in the same manner regardless. I’m not sure why I’m in the throws of arguing for myself right now, because I don’t really have much to argue against.

My point is that any casual movie fan would know who Ben Kingsley and Morgan Freeman are, regardless of the movie, let alone a self-described critic who openly belittles anybody willing to read his reviews. Don’t worry about it. The guy’s been called out before for plagiarizing somebody else’s article on the Die Hard franchise and admitted to it.

If you want his opinion, go for it. I’m done. Truth will out.

I don’t post much, but I’m down to talk movies. I personally thought Luck Number Slevin was awesome. @ jbpick86: If you liked Slevin you should check out “Oldboy” (it’s a Korean one. Good revenge story) and “Revolver”. Anybody seen the movie “Burn After Reading”? And if so is it worth watching? Looks somewhat interesting.

Of course I know who they both are as actors, but my point is that I didn’t know Morgan Freeman regarding the movie. I forgot that he was a character, specifically, in Lucy Number Slevin.

I don’t belittle people that read my reviews, if someone agrees with my reviews then I will talk to them about the common positives of our opinions on the film and we can each talk about the finer points of what we liked or didn’t like. If someone disagrees with my review then I will debate them on the differences in our opinions on the film in an attempt for me to convince them or for them to convince me of something that the other party has an opposing perspective on. I’ve been brought around many a time when faced with an explanation by another person as to the details of a film/character/scene. Off the top of my head I remember a user here persuading me that the villain from Unbreakable was a deeper and more impressive villain than I had given him credit for at the time. I don’t try to belittle anyone, I just voice my side and expect the other person to voice theirs so that we may have some substantial ground for persuasion and informative explanation, if anyone in particular had spouted that I was too mindlessly confrontational with no rhyme or reason behind my thoughts then I would apologise and come from a new direction with my explanations.

I had used many of the points in a cracked article on Die Hard to explain why Die Hard is so intriguing as a franchise, and indeed perhaps the more important part is that I had admitted to it, without any intent to deny that I had used the information from the article to mould my opinion of Die Hard, because it was the most recently relevant thing that I had read up about on the subject and there were bits and pieces that I felt were important to mention. It was perhaps silly of me to rely so heavily on those particular points and not think back to some that may be far more applicable when concerning it as a franchise covering both the good and bad of the spectrum and why that is, and had I attempted to deny my use of the article then you may have a point, but I didn’t, and you don’t.

Above is the article in question.

I’m not sure why you’re particularly trying to find a way to gun me down here, as I don’t remember us having much of a disagreement (or even a conversation) on anything since our small chinwag on Mission Impossible 4, if you’d like to explain to me why you’re being such an insufferable cunt, I’d be very grateful.

Edit: I have no clue why site only took “THOR” after I typed this out…

Recommendation: Thor and Loki: Blood Brothers - animated series. The shows are short and free on Netflix right now. The art style is different, but really well done. Though, I don’t know if everyone would enjoy the style they went with. The story is an interesting take on comic mythology. 7/10 - Worth checking out for the art style used.

The Woman

I watched this on the recommendation of Jamie Lewis from Chaos and Pain. You can catch it on Netflix now. I will try to keep the review vague to not spoil anything.

Brief synopsis: It’s about a lawyer that finds a feral woman roaming through the woods when he’s out hunting one day. He captures her and brings her back to his home to “help civilize her.” You can use your imaginations from there.

This is a twisted fucking movie. It is not really a gore-fest like some other horror flicks I’ve seen. There are a number of scenes that could have been horribly graphic and uncomfortable to watch, but instead the camera sort of flashes back and forth, which to me effectively conveyed the gruesomeness of the act and the frantic mental state of the person on the receiving end of said act. I appreciated this because I’m not really into torture porn scenes.

The cast is a bunch of no names (it’s from a very small studio I think), but they all did an exceptional job, even the kids. My only gripe is that I wish they would have spent a little more time on the actual “civilizing” of The Woman and less time on the drama surrounding the family, or simply just made the movie longer. It seemed to fly by really quickly for me. When the climax came I was surprised that it was happening already, so it did feel a little rushed to me.

Anyhow, if the premise intrigues you, definitely give it a watch. 8.5/10.
Sounds interesting and one my wife would probably enjoy as well. Just pulled it up on IMDB and the runtime is a little over and hour and a half, so you’re right in that it’s a fairly quick film. I’ll give it a watch when I have some downtime.

Watching Stranger than Fiction again right now…love this fucking movie. Maggie Gylenhall is ugly but in this movie (and The Secretary) I want bang the shit out of her.

I really enjoy Stranger Than Fiction, I hadn’t thought about it in a long time but I might give it another pass soon when I’ve nothing taking up space, thank you for bringing it back to attention Matty.

Great love story, I’m a sucker for stuff like this.

Dustin Hoffman was also fantastic

I love Dustin Hoffman, he made an interview relating to transgender acceptance, talking about his role in Tootsie, which I have scheduled to watch again later in the week. He seemed far more passionate about the idea of it than I would have really expected him to be, I was never aware that it really resonated with him so much during and around filming.

I would not have expected him to break down like that at the end, maybe Tootsie will feel all the better after this.
