Be careful, Sen. You might get sucked down deep enough into the quicksand that you can’t get out. I mean that sincerely and as a real, live online buddy.
Once you get into a habit good or bad it can be hard to break
Drink a bottle of good ole’ american jack daniels and that’s lights out forever.

No.

So you aren’t aware of alcohol poisoning?
First week of college a kid on my dorm floor nearly died cause of it.
Not from a bottle. I’ve done that a dozen times (usually JD, too), once I did it on consecutive nights.
Flasks don’t count.
It was a pretty vague statement to begin with. Drink a liter of JD in a matter of a few minutes, go ahead.
The whole point of the statement was the alcohol poisoning is a real thing, on american college campuses it’s almost a right of passage with the way the drinking culture is.
it is true that strong drink is a bad thing. however it amazes me the american attitude on this forum to drink…

Let’s not waddle into the land of moronic derailment. I’ve probably contributed to the Whiskey thread as much or more than anyone.

no problem. drink it will stay.
i did hear that the uk recommended limit on weekly drinking (28 units for a man, 21 for a woman) was based on a bunch of doctors asking each other how much they drank. clearly what they drank was ok so was used as nationwide guidance. 28 units.
I find it laughable when these threads pop up. Some nanny state crybaby starts demonizing alcohol on website that is dedicated to sports that will shorten your lifespan. Certain individuals say the same thing about bodybuilding, that it’s unhealthy and dangerous.
Is alcohol dangerous, oh yeah!
So is driving fast, having sex, rock climbing, riding a motorcycle, strong man, martial arts, road biking, horseback riding, mountain biking, powerlifting, competition bodybuilding, base jumping, and so on and so forth! Life is dangerous, everyone has an acceptable level of risk. Some just have bigger balls than others.

I’ve been thinking this the entire time I’ve been watching this thread. The fact of the matter is the weightlifting and eating habits of many of us here are likely going to take some years off of our lives, in the same way that alcohol consumption may. I’m not going to live life in a bubble just to stay here a little longer.
You should really add things like marathon running to the list as well. That’s the one that really irks me. I respect the dedication it takes to train yourself to that level and run a marathon at a decent pace, but marathon running is more dangerous than any of the lifting I do and most of the activities you’ve listed. I’m also annoyed by all the 13.1er’s and other casual marathon runners. You can get yourself into shape to run a marathon in a matter of months, but a 300/400/500 bench/squat/dead will take most average sized men at least 2 years of dedication. Not to mention the fact that I can do nothing but weightlifting and stay in good enough cardiovascular shape that I can still run a mile faster than your casual marathon runner.
Wait. I thought lifting and training now was going to allow me to live longer and still be strong enough to kick butt in my 80’s like grand Torino Eastwood.
What I would do is try to live without alcohol for a few weeks.
If you can do that with no problems, drink like a fish.
It would basically make you a drunk but not an alcoholic and there is nothing wrong with being the former.
Think about it, you could hug trees or chase money, or pussy or social status, or other nonsense to be able to bear this valley of tears, but you only shorten your life span by a few years, years you do not want to live through anyway, so where is the problem?
I realize that my post has the feelz of being somewhat ambivalent about this whole thing, which is mostly due to me being somewhat ambivalent about this whole thing.
Being an Alcoholic is nobody’s job to point out to someone else. Only the individual can do that. I’m one. I spent about 3,800 a year on booze, drank about a sixer of thick beer daily. If you can put it away for an extended period of time, you are usually good but what comes with the alcoholic is a mental twist in life.
Shit gets bad when we stop. We get crabby, pissy and get all but hurt over stuff. These things then get us back to the booze in order to feel better. I was not a blackout drinker or drank all day or fell over drunk, but it was a regular thing I wanted to do even when I knew I shouldn’t or didn’t want to.
Everyone has their moment of realization shits too much. Some decide to do something about it, most don’t.
Rules according to medical professionals are that they deem you an alcoholic if 2 or more of the following occur in a year.
More than 2 hangovers
2 . A blackout
Drinking the hair of the dog in the morning to teat a hangover
4 hospitalization due to consumption
Those are the ones I remember off the top of my head.
So is driving fast, having sex, rock climbing, riding a motorcycle, strong man, martial arts, road biking, horseback riding, mountain biking, powerlifting, competition bodybuilding, base jumping, and so on and so forth! Having sex is dangerous?
I guess the wife and I should have been dead years ago.
