Electoral Politics: A Losing Game

Good. Slow it down. I want as much gridlock and inaction as possible.

I’m not sure about this. I think they do represent many people while leaving out and humiliating others. It’s actually so bad that because of this I can’t speak freely in public, including on this forum.

You’ve mentioned this a few times within the last week or two. Is there something in particular that has made you feel this way as of late? or have you always felt this way?

There are serious consequences for speaking freely in the US, even if for totally intellectual purposes, or to speak the truth, not just stupid or mean statements. @Andrewgen_Receptors

This I am aware of. I just didn’t know if you had a particular incident that made you feel this was moreso the case for you. I also realize you’ve posted plenty that would reveal your identity on here whereas I have not - so I understand your apprehension.

It’s strange that colleges - traditionally the place to learn HOW to disagree - now give adverse treatment to those who wish to engage in debate. I believe Bill Maher had a New Rule segment on this but I cannot find it right now; basically calling out the left for censorship of speech.

I completely agree with you here.

Also why I fought so hard to have my own thing - where I can speak freely on my views and there isn’t a damn thing anyone can do to hurt me with it.

How are you guys being censored exactly?

Here you are freely speaking your mind.

I don’t. And that’s for a good, serious reason.

IMO, if you are left leaning there is little you could or might say that would cost you financially, or destroy your career.

I’ll add that I don’t even post statistics and information from peer-reviewed journals or our own government institutions that I wish to.

Or make fellow citizens emboldened or even permitted to vandalize and trespass on your home or assault you. Like, destroy your life.

What does that have to do with freedom of speech?

What will happen if you do?

Same if you are right leaning.

The folks seeing financial and/or career pushback do a lot more than lean…

No one wants to deal with folks on the fringes other than for short amusing bursts. Unfortunately, seems the bell curve is flattening.

About how much social media support for January 6th could I engage before it jeopardizes me financially?

Can you think of any subject a left leaning person could post that would come close to equally that?

I’m going to have to disagree here. People have been going to ridiculous lengths to cancel anyone who doesn’t agree with the ever-changing woke opinions. This leans HEAVILY in one direction, although I will agree that anyone can say some absurd shit to get them fired.

  • Gina Carano got cancelled for speaking out against the current political climate and comparing it to pre-Nazi Germany - ironically proving her point.
  • Fans were calling for Chris Pratt to get replaced in Marvel because he attends a church that still believes in conversion therapy (he never said he agreed with this practice).
  • Numerous teachers have been fired for not using a student’s desired pronouns, but let’s ignore that a significantly larger number of current teachers are actively treating white kids as if they owned slaves.
  • Kathy Griffin directly called for the doxxing of a minor who did nothing but wear a MAGA hat, yet was never cancelled (partly due to her complete lack of career at this point, to be fair).

This list is by no means exhaustive. Yes, anyone can receive career pushback for saying stupid shit, but you have to be blind to think this occurs equally between the two parties. The left (who previously championed free speech) is now the party of ā€œyou can’t say thatā€ and ā€œthis is where the mean words hurt meā€.

EDIT:
I could link a 2 hour podcast with Tim Pool, Vijaya Gadde and Jack Dorsey where Tim goes OFF on all the one-sidedness of twitter, and that was pre-pandemic - but it’s a Joe Rogan podcast and y’all already tried to cancel him.

Still don’t understand what that has to do with freedom of speech.

Are being thrown in jail for your speech?

Others have the right to react to your speech.

Your job can choose to disassociate themselves from you if they feel its in their financial interest.

Anyone vocally supporting BLM, Antifa or CHOP/CHAZ would be a great place to start… considering Jan 6th had very few injuries/deaths/destruction compared to any of the former organizations/incidents I listed.

And which side is the most sensitive to any little comment that doesn’t align with their agenda? And goes all out to see that the ā€œoffendedā€ is punished.

Again nothing to do with freedom of speech.
