Electoral Politics: A Losing Game

Maybe 50-60+ years ago, but these days with our current labor laws - unions are nothing but bloated bureaucracies or mini governments.

My father, a truckdriver, was part of the teamsters union…he made a good living because of the unions

but, just like anything else, the unions became too greedy and too corrupt and that greed forced them out

My father also said, the one matter he did not like about the unions, was they protected the members who fucked off most of the time instead of working hard

I know a lot of people from both the union and management at a very large shipyard and I find your post to be extremely off-the-mark.

Simply aspiring to be a bloated bureaucracy or mini-government would be a tremendous step forward for this union.

Watching a few episodes of Sesame Street or Mr. Rogers Neighborhood would probably benefit the management, too.

I’m not in a union as I make a living for myself.

Some unions are good others bad as the union leaders are in cahoots with the corporate management.

So paying nothing at the point of purchase is not better than what you have? No deductibles or co-pays.

While there is some truth to what you say as some union leaders have sold out the rank and file members to the corporate powers, there are unions who have not done such things. It is their model that sets an example and needs to be followed.

My experience dealing with the union, the union leadership and corporate leadership hate each other. When the union always gets its way they might very well be the cancer that kills its host.

I have seen a union steward who despised working with a fellow worker because the worker was lazy and worthless. The union steward would say he didn’t know how he kept his job, and then when management tried to suspend the lazy worker (not terminate him), the union steward would go to bat for the deadbeat and usually win.

If I were that union steward’s supervisor, I would be sure that he worked with his deadbeat slug every day.

I think we have been here before.

How much firsthand experience do you have of single payer systems? Other than oh it’s free and feels good.

I’m sure it’s zero. I’d rather pay and have what I have currently.

Man, stop with the unions. It is negotiations if you would like a rise. 2021 I was appointed a new manager and I was mad, because the guy was incompetent and a ā€œyes manā€ to what the owner said. We almost got in a fight. I was a bit jelous because I wanted the promotion.

Anyway we got in a meeting with the CEO and owner of the company. I was about to get fired if I did not stood my ground. I explained that the productivity requested from me to do, will actually negatively affect my sales. I also explained that nobody will do the job they are expecting for this money. I was accused for being lazy and actually selling pretty bad. I made a report and showed even in the crysis my sales are more than anyone in my department.

Luckily for me the next 2 months the next 3 months saw the company having much more sales and I stood out as the highest bonus earner. I immediatelly took the chance to negotiate a 20% rise. 3 months later the same, i was the highest earner. Negotiated another 20% rise. The CEO personally appologised for what was said in our meeting before and said I was under estimated.

This month my manager was fired for incompetence. Everyone in my office is asking me for my knowledge and to replace the fired guy. I am going to reject the job promotion unless my salary is doubled, as my bonuses this year have been doubling my net salary. I rather have no management responsibility and concentrate on sales, than manage a bunch of fucktards and help a bad CEO make more money. And that is exactly what I will say to the CEO. I am almost sure I will be apointed as a manager with almost double salary and way less responsibilities than the previous one, so I can concentrate on selling.

So nope, no unions will help you. You need to ask for money and provide value. I am not a sure productive guy, I just have knowledge and a feeling for what I do. I do the bare minimum, but I do it in an excellent way. I am really good at what I do.

Too bad this doesn’t happen in countries that have single-payer as their costs for healthcare are much lower than the U.S.

Then all those Starbucks workers who are unionizing are wasting their time? Man, what a waste as they’ve voted to unionize their 100th store.

You don’t think their taxes are higher than ours?

A study done by the Commonwealth Fund of the top 11 industrialized countries had placed the U.S. dead last in overall outcomes and England the 1st. The U.K. has more than a single-payer system. It is socialist. The hospitals are owned by the government. If you are a doctor or a nurse, the government is your employer.

So no, I don’t have any personal experience with single-payer as i was born in a country that masquerades as a democracy but it is really an oligarchy. However, I have a hard time believing that this study is wrong in it’s results and essentially not showing the nightmare that single-payer really is and how awesome the ā€œfree-marketā€ system the U.S. has is really superior.

Even if their taxes are higher it doesn’t negate their savings in their healthcare system. And what do they get for their taxes paid? Prices charged by the ā€œfree-marketā€ are merely private taxes.

Show me the tax rates for countries with single payer. I will wait.

As I figured. There really isn’t any need to argue with your further on this as you have zero clue.

This may be your dumbest claim yet, Zep.

Nuh uh bruh, single payer is amazing and the best healthcare in the world and it is free and cheaper.

It may be marginally cheaper at the start, but you get what you pay for. These nations are also headed towards total insolvency in the next generation while having a 60-65%+ effective tax rate. I don’t want ā€œcheaperā€ healthcare that is garbage. Anyone in a singlepayer system getting timely quality care either knows people or usually has money to pay to jump all the peasants.
