Wow that fight was siiiiick. Hansen gets dropped three times in the first round. Then in the second goes through a beautiful series of submissions. Alvarez countered them all very well. Then with like 5 seconds left in the fight they just bang. Ahhhh, such a good fight. A great card too.
Yeah that was without a doubt fight of the night.
I hope Dream really grows and survives to replace Pride. Anyone think that can happen?

I agree this was a great fight. I loved the sub transitions by Hansen in round 2 and the defenses by Alvarez.
I think Dream will replace Pride in some ways, but not in others. I truly believe that the market for fighters will move towards the ‘free agent’ style that’s being tried by Adrenaline or the fighter sharing style like you saw with EliteXC loaning Nick Diaz to Dream.
Because of that you will see more good fights, but less of a situation where you identify a fighter with a certain org like you did Pride. I’m pumped for it though, because as I start my pro career it gives me more flexibility and the potential to make more money someday when I reach my goals.
Early vote for fight of the year in my opinion…
It already seems to be the pride replacement, even the gloves are the same. but like danew said, i think the days of the monopoly are starting to fade away.
UFC seems to be intent on making a monopoly of sorts. A business model like the NFL, NBA where all the top athletes are consolidated under one roof.
But the way things seem to be headed is more like boxing where there are 4-5 big promotions that share fighters.
On the topic of the gloves…is there any substantial difference between the pride gloves and theUFC gloves…there seemed to be a lot more epic standup battles in pride and fewer 1 punch KO’s. Just look at chuck and rampage’s first fight. Do they weigh more…have heavier padding?
dream was amazing. nick diaz, uno, alvarez hansen, even mayhem.
hansen is a true beast. this guy gets caught in the chin numerous times and manages to fight back. its always fun watching him fight.
alvarez impressed me mucho. this guy just doesnt stop. aggressive all the way.
i think hansen will take it in a 2nd match though… i have faith in hellboy!

I think I read that they were 6oz. In Pride you were allowed to use as much wrap and tape as you wanted. I think the length of wraps is set at 6 feet in the UFC under commision rules.
