Economic Education: Get Some!

What about the multitude of innocent people that they kill? Are you trying to minimize this? When people speak critically of the military what do you think they are referencing?

Do they kill them on purpose? No.

Is killing innocent people a function of our military? No.

So should we eliminate our military due to the unintended killing of civilians? Also no.

As evidenced by the release of the video from Manning, yes sometimes.

Not officially.

Should the military be more careful not to kill innocents? Does the military need to be in all those wars, no. That would be a great way to cut down on the killing of innocents and minimize the hatred of the U.S.

I must side with Castoli, at least partially.

I say we increase spending on one specific “social program.” We need more funds to build more prisons to house the increasing number of criminals.

You get caught in a criminal act, you are arrested, then go to trial in court, then if found guilty you are incarcerated. You are not released until you serve your sentence. Good behavior is expected, so no early release for doing what is expected. Bad behavior gets you an extension of your sentence.

I acknowledge we have a real problem with the justice system today. A simple, but harsh solution, is to hold the justice person who doesn’t follow the sentencing guidelines liable in any civil suit when a released criminal harms anyone.

I can agree with you if those criminals are the “captains of industry” who consistently break laws in order to gain more profits. No more letting go white collar criminals who don’t go to prison as much as people who are caught with low quantities of drugs. Those people ought to be let out as their crimes are minor at best. This could make room for all of those white collar criminals. Then you wouldn’t even have to spend money for new prisons. Too bad for the prison-industrial complex.

What about those who brutalize innocent people?
What about those who steal from merchants, who then must pass on those costs to law abiding people?
What about… if a criminal broke into your house and stole from you? What if he pistol whipped you? Or maybe just shot you and left you for dead? Then where do “white collar criminals” fall in line of importance to get under control?

Did I imply that they should be let out?

And how much are white collar criminals stealing from the public? Just because they wear a suit and tie doesn’t make their crimes disappear.

Far ahead of those people in prison for drug charges.

I don’t give a rat’s behind about drug offenders. But if the idiot on drugs steals from anyone they are criminals that need to be incarcerated.

Our punishments are obviously not severe enough across the board to deter crime.

A simple tenet of psychology is the punishment must be severe enough to deter the behavior. If that level of punishment has to be death, so be it.

Also, if you are arrested and incarcerated for the same crime (that hurts people) over and over again, you obviously are incapable of learning and need to be put down like an animal.

Prison is for people that are considered a danger to the safety of the law-abiding public.

I am also in favor of not jailing drug users - ever for simple use or possession of drugs.

I don’t disagree with you here, but you are missing the obvious - money. Show me a society where money, influence, who you know, and power doesn’t equate to lesser or easier sentencing.

Women also get much lighter sentencing than men.

This is human nature.

Ahead of white collar criminals, who steal far more from the public than your common thief.

I agree. Fucking money ruins a lot of what it touches.

Of course!
White collar criminals don’t take anything by physical force, which could easily result in my immediate death or physical injury that greatly alter my potential to survive independently.

White collar criminals can steal my money, which can be replaced. They will not immediately end my life and cripple me physically. They will always be secondary behind the violent criminal.

If you just like arguing, have at it.

Do you know many criminals?

If so, what kind? Like smash&grab, burglary, cars, etc.

*People ruin a lot of what they touch.

Money is just a conduit.

I think castoli should go to prison for stealing space on this forum,

And they can steal a lifetime of money which would have a much greater impact then you are letting on. A slower death, maybe a suicide. And they do this not to one person but to the whole of the public when they can. You are just seeing the obvious and not the more subtle aspects of the dealings of white collar crime.

No, why do you think this matters?

Did I know any of the people who forged signatures on loan applications, that helped to cause people to go into foreclosure during the great real estate scam of 08’-09’? No I didn’t. Doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. How many of those white collar criminals went to prison?

I’m just trying to gage the breadth of your willingness to talk out of your ass. So far we have eekanomiks, the military, crime & punishment and there is no end in sight.

Pretty amazing, really.
