You mean hemorrhagic

Matty thinks it might be “hemorrhoidal.”

So, anyone want to takes bets on how long it takes adherents of the Religion of Peace and/or anti-human PETA types to get a couple of gallons of infected diarrhea and/or infect themselves and go spread joy around supermarkets, subways, etc. all over the Western world, starting in large cities?

I give it six months.

Boko Haram is geographically close. And they have 250+ potential vectors waiting to be released.

Very possible candidates, but they’d have hard times getting visas.

I’d suspect “aide workers” who under one of the endless NGOs, most of which are just fronts for whatever nation.

This is scary stuff. How soon before people start wearing full body protective suits?

Honestly, I think extreme radical PETA-types would be more apt to do that kind of thing than Muslims.

It’s tragic. Like many situations, I care, but what can I do?

The more people prepared the better off we are as a whole. How anyone watched the LA riots, Katrina or Sandy and still doesn’t have 3 days (at least) food and water and basic bugin gear is beyond me.

I would assume the looting won’t spread to personal residences until roughly day 8 or so of shit hitting the fan, and unless were talking about an entire region, you’re looking at total government shutdown of the area by then. That said the elderly, disabled and poorer sections might still be hit fairly hard. Motorcycle “clubs” and other assorted well organized gangs with military experience in their ranks would be my major concern, with drug addicts and people who run out of psych meds a close second, although the latter is dispatched with a $200 12 gauge, the former, not so much luck. Will need more fire power.

I don’t think so.

Why would you loot when you’re scared that everyone else has an infectious disease that can kill you?

Because people are stupid. HUNGRY people are desperate AND stupid. Don’t count on logic to get you through anything in SHTF scenario. Don’t count on the police or FEMA or the gov’t. Count on a close knit group of like minded people with enough water, guns, food and other preps to make it through a time where there’s civil unrest.

Having “friends” in motorcycle “clubs” is a legitimate strategy, IMHO… As long as you can provide value to them and are useful, you and yours will be a little safer from the other “hunters” looking for softer targets.

lol, yes. Strategic alliances are paramount, and I agree 100% with your above post too to magic about “forget about logic” when faced with SHTF.

One thing I forgot to mention is, unless you have a massive, and I mean massive, and very quick outbreak scenario, expect to lose your guns. I live in MA and the first thing the government is going to do is go door to door and confiscate weapons from the law abiding. (Look at Katrina. *) So, while I don’t advocate breaking the law, if you live in a registration state like I do, have a backup plan. (for example, get an 80% lower and learn some basic machining skills, lol. Or for those of us like myself with a talent for soft skills and general lack of talent for hard skills, hide your 12 gauge and hope to Christ handing over your other guns and lying about the pump action works, lol.)

*However in Watertown, when they were kicking down doors and going house to house looking for terrorists, the reports from the ground I got were the LEO involved were very much okay with the citizens who had armed themselves. Which speaks to the strategy of NOT being antagonistic towards LEO and military. Not saying trust 100%, ignore the bad apples or kiss anyone’s ass, just saying if SHTF and the local LEO know you as someone who calls them pigs all the time, they will take pleasure kicking your teeth in. However if your community enjoys mutual respect you have a chance of them not kicking your teeth in. Got to have tactics.

Like AC said, you can’t try and use the same logic and reason you use in your day-to-day life and apply it to a situation where shit is hitting the fan.

In a “regular” situation, you are 100% correct and my post is batshit crazy. In a SHTF scenario (think movies like Outbreak or Contagion) your post is batshit and I sound like a responsible citizen.

If you expect the worst, things will likely turn out better than expected and you’ll be okay. If you expect rational, you’ll be totally FUBAR when faced with irrational.

Interestingly, NY is going around to stores and encouraging people to report to the police purchases of bulk food, waterproof matches, MREs, etc. In short, basic stuff you’d need to get through a hurricane or something is considered “suspicious.”
