The entire fucking reason the IRC is as complex as it is ends up being due to people bitching about “fair share” and “let’s ignore details and take a big picture view”.
I mean good lord. Anyone that can do basic addition can take an accounting 101 class, and then THINK about what has happened and quickly understand how GAAP moved from a purely principle based system to a more so rule based system.
The fucking tax code did the same thing. All the “rare” things I’ve brought up are their because of the previous “fair share” bitching, and most of these things are GOOD and do force companies to pay the tax they owe.

This, and why I have no opinion on the matter other than leave it to the experts. My humility is this respect is why I hire an accountant. Specialization exists for a reason.
