I tried these today for the first with a proper weight, I found while holding the first isometric for 10 seconds that my vision went a bit wierd. Anyone experienced this?
You were probably utilizing the valsalva affect . It probably raised your blood pressure. That could be why you were blurry eyed, be careful the maneuver along with its advantages does have serious risks involved. In the valsalva maneuver, the glottis is closed, thus keeping air from escaping the lungs, and the muscles of the abdomen and rip cage contract, creating rigid compartments of fluid in the lower torso and air in the upper torso. It increases the rigidity in the entire torso. (Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning, second edition)
so do you think its worth not using this exercise? I was just trying it for something different.
Yes it?s worth it to incorporate Dynamic/Isometric shrugs. It is a novel way to do shrugs, in fact most of my athletes utilize Dynamic Isometrics exercises. Learn how to activate your transversus abdominis. Read this T-Mag article for more info How to be Back Strong and Beltless ? Part 3.
