'Don't Be That Guy at The Gym'

Push,

I wouldn’t call the FLDS a sect of the LDS church- a branch off of it perhaps, but unique and unconnected in any leadership or oversight. There’s no crossing over between the two.

Fortunately, what is taught by Seminary teachers as doctrine is not necessarily doctrine. Polygamy will probably exist in the eternities (i.e. God has given no indication that He will dissolve polygamous unions that he approved of), but as for it being reinstated and actively practiced, it is doubtful. There is an unfortunate tendency of members of all religions to offer reasons where there perhaps should not be. Even Brigham Young offered a few contradictory insights (though they can be reconciled, however, not easily) about Polygamy and other doctrines.

As for the Manifesto, considering Polygamy continued to be practice in the Mexican colonies and parts of Canada, it is clear there was some reaction to the illegal seizure of Church property. Can God not give the church advice about how to proceed in this case? Of course he can, you and I both know that. I know from your study that you’ve reconciled yourself to a satisfactory explanation, and you probably know a few points and counterpoints in regard to the Manifesto, so we needn’t rehash that here. iStandOnMyHands is (hopefully) well intentioned, but he’d be well to temper his thoughts and commentary with reason. FWIW, I would be one of the first to argue that, biblically speaking, polygamy is not immoral (I am not nor ever have been Mormon either).

I’ve gone into this in great depth on other threads.
I think I’ve read it before. I have been actively trying to refute “Mormon Myths” about polygamy within my limited capacity as a teacher and friend in the church, and I respect others who do not react or come with preconceptions about polygamy but are willing to have an honest discussion about things.

I make faces haha

He is married already.

Ummmmmmm…do I need to state the obvious?..He’s Mormon, ya know.

Yes, I know we have the “good” Mormons (with one wife) and the “bad” Mormons (multiple wives) but how do you know for sure which one the Kid is?
the LDS church (mormon) got rid of polygamy (the practice of having multiple wives) in the 1800s. the LDS church is the ones who own BYU. the FLDS church (a break-off from the mormon church that started back in the 1800s when the prophet joseph smith died and everyone had new ideas as to who the prophet should be… one guy went off, proclaimed himself the new prophet, and called his church the FLDS) practices polygamy to this day. they arent mormons. theyre all over the news for that guy warren jeffs and his sex scandal. if you practice polygamy in the LDS church, they excommunicate you. meaning you can no longer claim to be associated with them in any way. LDS = latter day saints. FLDS = fundamentalist latter day saints
LDS (mormon) = no polygamy
FLDS (not mormon) = polygamy

as for you being married, darnit. itd be sweet to have a brother in law who knows how to werk awt for once.
All of this ^ I’ve known for a decade or more longer than you’ve been alive.
^dont pretend to know more about my religion than me. and, if theyre as you put, a “bad mormon” who practices polygamy, then they arent a mormon at all. theyre just a bad person.
I don’t have to pretend. Everything you wrote I knew before you were a twinkle in Pa’s eye. That doesn’t mean I know more about your religion than you do; it means “all of this ^ I’ve known for a decade or more longer than you’ve been alive.”

Also you might want to learn what quote marks can and do mean under certain circumstances. I put “bad” and “good” in quotes for a reason. Those who understand English grammar better than you will understand.

In addition, had you been to LDS seminary in the 80’s in Idaho Falls, ID you might very well have been taught that polygamy WILL make a return to the LDS church.
lol, im not gonna bible bash with you, but i’ll correct the false doctrine you profess. it won’t return, theres probably a reason it was only taught in one seminary. because that teacher was probably insane. i used quotation marks correctly. they’re not called quote marks, they’re quotation marks. quote is not an abbreviation for quotation.

oh the irony. shut up. i don’t care if you’ve known it longer, i know more about it. that’s like taking my grandma, who’s known about exercise longer, and saying she’s more qualified to talk about just cause she heard it first.
Lemme spell it out for ya, squirt. I, not you, put “good” and “bad” Mormon in quotes both as a tongue in cheek reference to the fundamentalist sect of the LDS church that STILL openly practices polygamy AND because the “good” Mormons, the LDS church, indeed do consider the FLDS church to be bad AS YOU HAVE DIRECTLY IMPLIED. Therefore you have helped me make my point which by the way was said in a humorous fashion and not at all intended to bash the LDS. If I wanted to do that I could prove to be quite adept as I married a Mormon girl a long time ago AND spent quite a bit of time in the study of the Mormon religion.

As far as the LDS seminary teacher being insane, you in your youthful zeal may very well make that assertion and it may or may not be true but the cold hard facts are that the seminary teacher who taught hundreds if not thousands of LDS kids from Idaho Falls High School circa 1983 did indeed teach that polygamy will make a legitimate church sanctioned comeback in the LDS church.

Now if you want to discuss how Utah achieved statehood vis-a-vis a very convenient manifesto given to church president Wilford Woodruff allegedly by God in 1890 which disavowed plural marriages at precisely the same time the federal government was escheating church property and jailing many of its polygamist members…well we could certainly do that, couldn’t we? However, we don’t want to be “that guy in the gym” who discusses that type matter in a thread about tomfoolery in the gym antics.

I would also suggest that you consider employing the commonly used technique called Capitalization if you wish to banter about grammar with the likes of me.

blah blah blah

that must be why they send 19 year old boy’s on missions to go tell everyone else about our church. cause we know nothing. you got me

push, he’s not gonna quit, but I enjoy reading your posts. I love seeing little douchebags schooled, it’s soo entertaining!

Romney is a Mormon, he will fix this only marrying one wife thing.

remember that the more wives you have, the more possibilities of divorce.

Alimony: The Fucking you get for the fucking you got ; )

I thought we were supposed to be “the Meatheads.” Sure, being rude and loud is undesirable but most “meatheads” don’t actually exhibit those characteristics.

I love the guys at the gym who have to slam the weights down after every set. Everybody in the gym has to look over to see the “awesomeness” and said fool gets his attention. Except for a few lifts going to failure, if you can pick that heavy shit up and be in control you ought to be able to put it down under control.

Very true!

I sometimes think about it and the thinking process these guys must go through:

Idiot in Gym’s Inner Voice: I want people to know I lifted this weight. Therefore I should drop it so it makes noise.

Idiot in Gym’s Inner Voice 2 But if you are trying to look strong…shouldn’t you lower it under control? The person who can put 50lb dumbbells down gently must be stronger than one who drops them right?

Idiot in Gym’s Inner Voice 1 Uhhh, yeah…that makes sense.

Idiot in Gym now puts weight down gently after his set.

Idiot in Gym’s Inner Voice 1 Hey! No one looked at me and nodded in a bro-like fashion. That means they didn’t notice…I need to go back to making noise, that way I’ll know that they all know I an strong!
