Dog People - Big Dogs

had to find this thread today. had to put the old girl to sleep today. the family golden retriever has now moved on up to a better place. not a word of a lie, she was 17 and a half years old. she was blind, and deaf, could still smell and had horrible hips. her condition just deteriotated badly over the weekend and she then had to be put down. the vet said he could not even find any veins to inject the stuff in to her, her pulse was so weak.

RIP Buona, we miss you
So sorry. It is one of the hardest things to do.

So sorry to hear of your loss Pluto. Losing a pet is so hard.

My big girl is Gigi, an Airedale Terrier. She gets both fish oil and glucosomine. She is on Science Diet.

who here has a big dog?

anyone give their dog omega-3s?
I just started giving my dane (5 yrs old), one Flameout pill per day.
Figured a little more would be better, but something is better than nothing.

big dogs get hip issues so if it will help her as she gets older I’m all for it.
I have an Aikita and have found the glucoseamine works well for joints as well.

Aw man,… I feel for you my friend. When I had to face the same option, the Vet told me I was doing the greatest thing I could for my friend. It would have been selfish to do anything else. I’m sure you can find it on here, but I wrote a whole thread on that day, and everyone on here really made me feel better, all while tearing up quite a bit. It’ll be a full year this month on the 29th, and it’s still difficult.

Remember what a great life you shared with that noble creature, and know that dogs know when they are loved and cared for. They are truly better animals than we are.

Give my Baby Rowdy fish oil every day. Sometimes he takes it with no problems other times it becomes his next play toy for a while ;). He is still a pup but weighs in just over 60 lbs – gonna be a big Boxer I think.

He’s a great looking dog! I love boxers. I have a box/lab mix and I wish he had more of the boxer look to him. He just has that little white patch on his chest.
Thanks! I think he is the best dog I have ever had. Just have to find ways to channel all his energy.

Went to get dog food last night, bought two bags, one 33lb and one 28lb, my wallet is now $120 lighter. Damn dogs… why can’t I just feed them Ol’Roy or something!!! haha

I have a 135 pound Bullmastiff named Seamus. Love my big dog and the reactions I get. Now he just looks normal to me and I don’t realize he is big until I get around other dogs.

Awesome dog! We have the opposite reaction when our dogs get around other dogs. In our house they look like good sized dogs but when they get around dogs like your dog, they look like little puppies!
