That and a bit of Socialism thrown in.

Socialism is the form of government most people associate with communistic principles.

Yeah, Vancouver is REALLY nice.

The ol’ “it could be so much worse” argument…I love it.[/quote]
You know this argument could be applied to anything.
Stuff like: Why go to the Gym? Aren’t you happy with the body/lifestyle you have? You know you could have been born deformed…
Why get a hotter, nicer, richer, friskier girlfriend? Aren’t you happy with a fattie? She could be deformed…
Why get a new car? Aren’t you happy with what you have? You know you could have it worse. It could be a rusty piece of junk. And it could be deformed…
You know now that I think about it… why do anything? Why not just sit here? I have it better than most bums in Downtown Toronto therefore I should be happy… right?

Socialism is in between Democracy and Communism.

Which is why it isn’t a valid argument.

No it isn’t. It has nothing to do with rule. It has only to do with ownership of the productive forces.
The communist party is not a form of government. Just like the democratic party or green party is not a form of government. They are guiding principles that define a group–often dogmatic.

Nope. It means show some damn happiness and joy once in a while. Things are pretty great considering.
Oh, and be happy that you can work hard and get a newer/better car. Not everybody can.

No, you’re right. Every list of past and current forms of government in every history book or on the Web I’ve ever seen must be wrong.
Discontent is what drives people to seek betterment. I want a society that’s pissed off enough to actually try to improve itself, rather than just assuming history had ended with peace and happiness prevailing like I think some people did to a certain extent in late 90’s.

They are wrong. Communism has been erroneously given this label by cold war propaganda. It’s defined pretty clearly in the communist manefesto. No where in the manefesto does it make mention to how people should be ruled. It makes mention of communists in relation to the “state” but nothing more specific than that.
Btw, I am not a communist nor do I believe communism is absolutely correct.

Communism, just like socialism, just like democracy are all forms of government.

The term “communism” has many different meanings depending on the context and is, on its own, rather useless. The word predates the Communist Manifesto and wasn’t then nor is it now strictly equivalent to the definition given in the pamphlet.
If you’re looking for a term which is considered more or less equivalent to the meaning of the Manifesto, then you should use “Marxist.” Of course Marx didn’t consider himself a Marxist, but then the Manifesto was merely a work written expressing the views of the group which commissioned it.

Exactly. What a stupid fucking thread.
America is the best country on earth. I firmly believe this. I also believe we’re in the midst of serious cultural decline (abortion, collapse of the family, the kind of hypersexualization that Aldous Huxley wrote about) and we’re pursuing a moronic foreign policy.
So why should we be patting ourselves on the back? Our country would be better off if there was less self-congratulation about our virtues, of which there are many, and more serious attempts to fix what’s wrong.

Better to just comment on the thread than to be a dickhead about it.
OMG! The point is not that “we” are perfect. Not that “we” should pat ourselves on the back. Not that being better should not be a priority.
Just that there’s a little too much whining going on. People in this country want, want, want but aren’t willing to work, work, work for it.
Too many people get things handed to them yet it’s not enough. They’re never happy. Nothing will ever be good enough.
Hell, I know kids that get 2002-2004 vehicles given to them as juniors in high school and bitch that they didn’t get a new Escalade that they saw on Cribs.
How the hell do all you take my thread to mean “all is good”, “let’s all sit on our asses”, “I love complacency”, “nothing needs to change” and “Let’s not strive for anything better.”?
Comprehension people. Comprehension.
