I agree comparing the US to Europe is an exercise in futility, but good luck trying to explain that to Bernie supporters. They seem to share the same collective vision of the future.

Some countries could be similar to smaller units like families and businesses , which are socialistic in nature, where it is to their advantage to operate collectively. But with larger populations and economies the model crashes.

Michael Dukakis democrat nominee 1988. He had zero charisma. Hillary tops him as not only didn’t she have charisma, she actually made people mad. To many her voice sounded like someone running their nails across a chalk board.
For laughs google Michael Dukakis in tank. He wanted to look strong so he put on a helmet and rode in a tank. That, (along with just him being him) was the death knell to his candidacy.
Honorable mention for worst nominee’s go to George McGovern 1972 Presidential candidate for the democrats and John McCain the republicans choice in 2008.

In addition to that as I have said in the past Bernie has no appeal to white working class women, or soccer Mom’s. They would have gone to Trump by 63% had Bernie been the other choice. And Bernie would have broken new records in chasing away independent voters.

First of all you say that like there is something wrong with it. Do you realize that most who have served as President have been wealthy to some degree?
Would you rather walk the streets of a large city and choose the poorest person you can find? What’s wrong with choosing someone who knows how to succeed? That is one of the problems with Obama. This man had zero experience with money or understanding business. And look what he gave us.
Trump borrowed 1 million from his father and built a multi billion dollar empire out of it. Better we give him a crack at the Presidency than some guy who is broke and clueless. President Calvin Coolidge once said “the business of America is business.” Point being if you have someone who actually understands business and the economy you have at least half the equation solved. Foreign affairs being the other half.
So far Trump has picked the best cabinet that I have seen in my lifetime (so much for the people here on T Nation claiming he couldn’t be trusted to choose a good cabinet). And I lived through the Ronald Reagan years.
By the way Reagan was a millionaire before entering office as was his predecessor Jimmy Carter.
And both (Clintons) are hopefully gone from the political scene forever. But…I must say while I know intellectually that Hillary will not run again…I would just like an exclamation point at the end of her political career. Let’s say an indictment for example. I don’t care if she’s pardoned but at least charge the witch with something. It’s not like I want her to serve any hard time I am not a vengeful person, no not at all. I just want to make sure that she never ever comes back. I mean I want to be more than the 99% sure that I am now.
