I think the guy pretty much explained why. She posted disrespectful things on Facebook for the world to see, so he did also to show her what it felt like. He told her he would shoot the computer if she did something stupid, so he did. It’s called following through with the things you say.
So many kids act up now because their parents don’t follow through with the consequences that they say will happen so kids learn they can do what they want with no punishment.

I agree with you. I just don’t think making a 8 minute long youtube video and then shooting a laptop is the most effective parenting I have ever seen in my life. Whilst he is making a point that needs to be made, there are probably better ways to do it. I mean he’s meant to be the responsible person in the situation. He just seems like he’s trying a bit too hard to be a badass.

I think we can all agree what he did was pretty badass, it didn’t seem he tried too hard at it. To be honest, he was very precise in what he wanted to convey to his daughter through this. He didn’t do this in a state of anger; on the contrary he had calmed down and had a clear plan and goal in mind. He had a retort and reason to all the points in his daughters whine session she posted on facebook.
I don’t think he was trying to be a badass, but what he was trying to do was keep his integrity in the eyes of his daughter and show her that her actions have consequences. I think him being a badass was only a by-product of what he did. I think he would’ve been trying too hard to “shoot” the point home if he had used the laptop for target practice. Life if he would’ve panned out to the laptop on a fence and showed everyone how great of a shot he was would’ve been trying too hard. Instead he just laid the laptop down and fired bullets into it, doing exactly what he had told his daughter he would do if she would do what she did.

as I’m sure you’re aware, kids don’t live in a bubble and become aware of certain emotions as they get older (emotions such as envy, jealousy, and spite). Now, these emotions can be influenced by external factors outside of the home (i.e. friends, popular music, other media, school mates, etc…) which influence behaviors (like seeing things your friends do that you can’t because your parents won’t allow it could produce an emotion response of spite. The type of emotion that would prompt a 15 year old girl to blatantly disregard a rule her parents had put in place…)
To jump to conclusions and blame the parents insists that you weren’t paying attention to the details of the video. And by details I mean the list of things the daughter was complaining about (i.e. the chores she was responsible for … I know in my experience when I was growing up, being assigned chores and having consequences assigned to tasks unaccomplished pretty much indicated a family who did NOT spoil their children.
