For starters, don’t buy a “crotch rocket” — they’re for punks and dipsteens only.
Man, people like you suck ass.
What he meant to say was they are only for those with balls of steel who can handle the speed.
Whatever.
I live in Houston, where those clown-bikes are epidemic. We have way too many fucking idiots zigzagging through traffic like they’re in a video game.
As the saying goes:
There’s crazy motorcyclists and there’s old motorcyclists, but there ain’t no crazy, old motorcyclists.

I live in Houston as well and I wouldn’t have to zig and zag if it wasn’t for dishits that knew where they were going!
You cannot make a blanket statement like that and not expect to get jumped on.
I ride fast and I enjoy it, I also enjoy track days on a regular basis. Don’t judge me because you seen some douche bag ridding a wheelie down the 610 loop in rush hour traffic. It wasn’t me I have a beautiful wife to come home to and two kids.

I had a phase with them a couple years back. They are very nice bikes! I’m 6’5" though and after awhile, my back couldn’t take hunching over continuously. So I just sold mine and now I cruise with a 2005 Suzuki Boulevard M50 Black. Much more relaxing but not as much adrenaline pumping!
Though I’m much more impressed with the technology that goes into these things. It’s just fascinating seeing a simple machine hitting 150MPH like nothing. And we’re not even discussing Hayabusa’s! Talk about awe-mazing!
The Busa is a nice bike but the ZX10 is the fastest quarter mile production bike made. Taller guys should love the Busa, worship it, I felt like midget on that thing extremely comfortable for short people.

Does anybody have any advice for somebody looking to buy their first bike?
I just turned 19 and got my first bike a few months ago, its a Suzuki SV650 naked model. Single cylinder so it has a shit load of torque and will keep up with an R6 all day long. Absolute blast to ride. Also, seat position is a bit higher so it’s comfortable as well. Theres my .02.

Don’t want to bust on you too hard chip, but there ain’t no “single cylinder” that’ll keep up with an R6 that I’m aware of. The SV650 is a V-twin.
I got my first street bike back in '84. Went through a progression bikes before I finally took it to the track (CBRs and FZRs). After a couple years of racing, I lost my nerve for street riding.
I’ve had three friends die because they were riding over their heads on the streets. I know a half dozen more that have screwed themselves up pretty good by running out of talent and road. But, the vast majority of buds that have gone or been injured has been through no fault of their own. Stupid freakin’ drivers in cages mowin’ 'em over like so much wheat in a field.
I lost my taste for the streets. It holds no value for me anymore. I still borrow a bike now and then and do a track day, which is something I’ll always enjoy.
It is impossible to come close to the limits of a modern sportbike on the street. Hell, most guys don’t even come close to extracting the last oomph out of a 400 on the track! But there is no denying they are fun.
Leathers (preferably a one piece with some energy absorbing pads), boots (with appropriate ankle protection), gloves (with extra protection on palms and knuckles), and a good helmet are a must.
Ride safe, keep the sticky side down, and have fun.

Not all sportbike riders are punks.

Point taken. I typically avoid generalizations, but ‘sportbikers=idiots’ seems more the norm than the exception.
I like driving fast too, and like you I enjoy going home in one piece. Since you live in Houston, then you know exactly the numbshulls I’m talking about.
I knew I was stirring the pot when I made that post and was sure some would get riled-up or bent out of shape about it…

Sorry, Prof. You didn’t tell me rhyming was required. But do ‘Prime’ and ‘by’ really rhyme?

It doesn’t describe ‘prime’ and ‘by’ either. ‘Buy’ and ‘by’ or ‘two’ and ‘too’ are homophones.

I guess you’re not an English professor…
I’m not. Words are often used in rhymes that aren’t rhymes but sound similar using similar sounding vowels. That is how “prIme” and “bY” can be used. You see this all of the time in songs. Perhaps the word “homophone” is the wrong term, but it is a tactic often used in rhymes, songs, and poems.

I knew what you meant, but was just giving you grief for using the wrong word. There is a word for it, but I can’t remember what it is right now.

Hey, no worries. The 2nd pipe coming out of the engine isn’t easy to spot. All I know is I love the bike so far. But thanks for the info, it’s appreciated.
