That storm was crazy! Way, I work right off Western Ave. and we had decent size hail there. 2 miles up the road, nothing. Later that night at home, in Sevierville, we didn’t get the first drop of anything until bout 12:30. And it was fast and furious. Woke me out of a dead sleep. Thankfully the cars are in the garage. Crazy![/quote]

Man, no joke, my GF lives 10 mins east of my apartment and had much smaller hail, seems like the huge hail was very localized. I guess the area right around UT campus just got pwnd with these basball sized ones.

That’s crazy Rob. Holymac lives near Tuscaloosa and we wanted to see if he was ok and his response was “Helping police. Bodies on the street. srs. ttyl.”

Scary stuff!

holy shit.

This is gonna sound crazy, but I’ve been feeling like something really big is brewing weather wise. The last few years really wacky shit has been happening, and it seems like here lately things are getting crazier and crazier. Look at what just happened in Japan, or the fires in Texas, or seemingly random weather phenomena occurring in the strangest places. I mean I just moved to Portland, and even though it’s pretty minor in comparison the city is experiencing it’s longest winter in over 23 years.

The average day here is in the high 40’s. IT’S ALMOST FUCKING MAY. That’s crazy. Again, this is gonna sound crazy, but I feel like the earth is a living entity, and it’s getting pissed that we’re not taking care of it the way we need to, and it’s about to show us that it’s the boss, not the other way around. I am not some tree hugging hippy, and I’m definitely not one to fall into Y2K hysterics, but the fact that all of this shit is happenning as we’re heading towards 2012 is kinda spooky.

California says Sup.

I agree, it is weird. The week before this we also had a insane storm that lasted about an hour and as a result there was the greatest amount of power outages in TN since the blizzard of 1993.

it’s really bad over here. i keep an apartment on 15th street, one of the areas classifed as a ‘disaster area’. my apt is ok minus some windows blown in, however literally across the street, an entire community has been completely wiped away.

thankfully so many volunteers have shown up to help, businesses/individuals have donated tons of bottled water, diapers, food, clothes, all kind of supplies. FEMA and Red Cross showed up within 36-48 hours and have already converted the university’s rec center and a state park into orderly distribution/refugee sites. the national guard is here helping with search and rescue, clearing roads and houses, and providing night time security patrols to deter looters.

without a doubt a stark contrast to the complete chaos/abandonment that was shown during katrina.

Holy crap guys I hope you’re all alright.

I was tempted to make a joke about Way having little girl hands making the hail look huge :stuck_out_tongue: but seriously hope you guys are all looked after.

May all who perished in the Alabama tornado RIP

I’ve got a cousin who went to UT (I think you might know her, actually) and she was posting pictures of that ridiculous hail too, had one of a car that looked like the roof was made of crumpled tinfoil in her apartment parking lot. Absolutely ridiculous. Fortunately, the shit veered north going through Georgia and the really bad stuff didn’t really affect SC. We did have a giant 100+ year oak go down nearby though. Not surprising, since this is the second time this month we’ve had 60+ mph hour winds here.

Didnt realize you were from my home state Way, all my family were okay. In Tennessee and Georgia, HM glad to hear you are okay man.

This weekend my family came up from Alabama for hot showers and A/C. My brother showed me some video he’d taken in the state park out by Guntersville. It is just plan sad. Miles and miles of forest just plane gone.

This is the same area that just a couple years ago was hammered by gravity winds. There are a lot of people there rebuilding what the just finished rebuilding.

Several smaller Alabama towns just vanished. I was down helping out in T-town over the weekend and its hard to imagine how bad it was.

I clicked on this thread intending to mention how much I miss Texan thunderstorms and shit…but, yea, not fist-sized hail. That’s a seriously pissed off sky!
