Cough... Quebec... Fires!

Hey Canuck neighbahs-- Put ya fires out!! Ya killin’ us!

Literally!

No, seriously-- anyone live up near these fires? I hear locally that it’s a pretty bad scene with several dozen very large fires going. It’s been hazy (smoke hazy) here all day. Reports are the same throughout the state.

Good luck with those. No fun.

CHATHAM, Mass. – Forest fires from Quebec affected much of New England Monday.

Local fire departments reported receiving dozens of calls after a thick haze was seen hanging on the horizon across the state.

Beverly Fire Department Dep. William Walsh said his department received more than 75 calls Monday morning about the smoke.

“Most of our calls are from people that are concerned with fires that in their area because of the heavy wood smoke. They’re thinking that it’s in their backyards,” Walsh said.

The smoke is actually from four wildfires burning in Quebec. A northwest wind pushed the smoke across eastern New England.

Despite the conditions, many Bay State residents spent their Memorial Day at the beaches.

“We make the most of it. We’re Boston-ers; we’re New England-ers. We’re used to dealing with adverse conditions and elements and making the most of it. So, nobody’s going to rain in on our Memorial Day parades,” said a local beach-goer.

You finally made a thread that wasn’t a parody. The PEDs must be wearing off.

I really gotta watch the news, I was wondering why it was so hazy over Montreal this morning.

Fine, I’ll put out the damn fires if it makes you guys stop complaining. Just give me a few weeks to drive over from BC.

I was living in Nova Scotia about 10 years ago. We would get New York’s bad air. You could be way out in the countryside, and there would be bad air warnings. So I figure these forest fires are a form of revenge.

I call BS - unless you’re talking about the first few weeks after 9/11. I’ve lived in NYC area for 16 years and the air has never been bad enough in that period (other than stated above) for there to be any issues related to NY air quality.

I’m down in western Mass for biz this week. Was quite hazy the whole drive down from Maine.

Actually, it was the two summers BEFORE 9/11 that I’m talking about. 2000, 2001. Probably NY itself is fine; its bad air just gets blown northeast.

It was hazy in Eastern Mass over the weekend too. Sometimes, you could even smell the smoke.
