Shut up. Reading is far better. Unless you have a terrible imagination and an avid taste for horrendous movies…

DON’T SAY MEAN THINGS ABOUT BOOKS!
Reading is for liberals and pedophiles.

Give me films!
From the guy who was obsessed with The Book Of Eli. Come on.

For some reason Gattaca just came to my mind, Serenity was also great. I still think you should sack up and read a book though.

Only idiots read books. Geniuses watch movies.

The fuck is Gattaca? Sounds like a Battle Star Galactica remake.

Serenity was pretty bad ass.

Gattaca was a sick movie, go watch it. Bears. Beats. Battle Star Galactica.

How do you handle movies with subtitles?

Interesting. Maybe you’d do better with picture books then?

Picture books can work just fine. Walls of text and I’ll set the book on fire.

Or you could ease your way in with a “choose your own adventure” style book. I’m done being a dick now. I’ll take your books, you can have my movies.

Did anybody here read any books from the Redwall Series?

Movies: Gattaca, Terminator series
Books: Ender’s series, Foundation series

Again with the books! Jesus!

Films:

Event Horizon was bad ass.

That was a good movie. I didn’t sleep for almost a week, bad idea to watch that when your like 11 years old.

I read “The Long Patrol” and “Redwall.” I enjoyed them, but never bothered to pick up the rest of the series. My mother would often pick up stacks of books that she thought I might like at book fairs, so sometimes they were pretty random.

Has anyone read “A Canticle for Leibowitz?” Sci-fi, post-apocalyptic.

Rendevouz with Rama you fuckers. Rendevouz with Rama. Arthur Clarke. Incredible book; creative, imaginative, gripping.

Exploration has never felt more thrilling.

And it is very short - so the risk is low (if you hate it, which you won’t)

Anything Heinlein is worth reading really, though some of the stuff towards the end of his life gets a little odd.

For a good collection of short stories you should read The Green Hills of Earth. It’s an excellent collection and a fun read.

Personally I didn’t like Starship Troopers as a movie, the book was a brilliant commentary on the social responsbilibies of a citizen within a society, the movie was an action flick. It hurt to watch it, though I’m always a fan of Clancy Brown.

When Gravity Fails, widely recognized as one of the first and pivotal books of the cyberpunk genre it’s worth picking up for sure.

Santiago is one of my all time favourites, that was done by Mike Resnick

The Widowmaker series is also a good read.

If you’re looking for something not too deep but horribly addictive pick up the Lost Fleet series by Jack Campbell. I think I read each of them in one sitting and really quite enjoyed them.

Foundation series by Asimov is worth reading though I have to read some Poul Anderson after to wash the self-rightous preachiness out of my brain.

Ian M. Banks is a fascninating author overall.

There are so many more I could toss out but I suppose I should get a little work done at some point.

STU

Greg Egan is an interesting writer. Schild’s Ladder is the hardest sci-fi I think I’ve ever read.

a few films I really like but you may have never seen or heard of them

A Boy and His Dog
Soylent Green
Brazil
Enemy Mine
Strange Days
animated movies
Fantastic Planet
Wizards
