My fiance and I have a very well stocked kitchen, full of a lot of the hardware and specialty foods that you see on those cooking shows. Cooking is one of my favorite hobbies, to the point that I have actually taken classes at a local culinary school, and my fiance makes traditional Indian dishes quite often.
You ever go to the Indian grocery store over by the Uncommon Market?

I get cases of pureed mango there for mango/yogurt/coconut milk smoothies, which are absolutely awesome.

Sure do, that is where she gets most of her ingredients from.

True story: they put Giada in those shirts to highlight her 'oobies so no one notices how enormous her head is.

Because, seriously, it is unreal.

I’ll watch anything with Bobby Flay. Dude is a fantastic.
Completely agree with that…I like cooking shows, as a cooking enthusiast without any actual classes I do pick up tips/ideas from the shows. Worst part about the cooking channel is that they don’t have on demand…fucking sux

I smoked the dopes

then made this thread

Who the fuck has any of this shit in their kitchens?

Sweet Albino Black Beans

Cherry Smoked Butter Lemon Zest Powder

Make sure you use fresh porcupine quills to check the temperature of the curried ocelot in your hyperbaric oven blender

I think I know the show you have in mind. It’s called “Chopped,” right?

They try to throw in some truly bizarre ingredients in order to really challenge the contestants because they’re all professional chefs who would otherwise breeze right through.

Besides the bizarre ingredients, they also throw them curve balls by forcing them to incorporate some commonplace but completely illogical ingredient, like frosted cornflakes in an entree or asparagus in a dessert.

Yep, same here. I actually picked up some decent skills from watching those shows, not to mention it made me feel really confident about throwing in spices.

There have been a few that have come and gone, but people don’t want to see that shit. They want to see something decadent, or at the very least Giada’s tits. Fun fact: every human being that doesn’t have a penis hates Giada.
Well, I guess I have a penis then.

A Russian that doesn’t drink? Next you’re going to tell me that unicorns exist ;).

Yes, unicorns exist… and they drink.

Although Guy Fieri still kinda bugs me, I’ve grown to really like his show “Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives”.

Sage loves chicken!

I believe there is some potential out there for a show that teaches you how to do a solid, somewhat healthy meal at a somewhat reasonable price with things you can shop for in under ten minutes.

Should be no longer than 15 minutes.

I would call it “Fuck you, I dont have all day”.

I think its called epic meal time.

Cooking shows were created to make you hungry. If you watch a cooking show to the end you just HAVE to eat something, even if you haven’t been cooking.

I freaking love watching Iron Chef, especially chefs like Morimoto and Zakarian. Total geniuses. Both of them.

Flay is good too, but he’s been on the air for so long his stuff gets kind of predictable, and when it’s something out of left field it’s more than likely one of his staff that thought it up.

But yeah, when they’re doing some sort of crazy protein like elk or wild boar or whole fish I’m stoked.

As for Giada? I love her. Her blue blood genes might have skewed her height vs her head but that’s ok w me.

Rachel Ray? Don’t dig her at all

Barefoot Contessa? I cannot stand that fuckin’ xanax induced soft lighted pretentious housewife shitshow of a show… But don’t tell Jeffery… Tee Hee!

Clever way to flush out the culinary hobbyest among us.

You don’t cook with the dopes? That would hit two birds with one stoned.

Crock pot cooking FTW! Today I am doing pulled pork…

5 pound bone in pork shoulder
1 beer
2 onions
couple dashes liquid smoke
1/4 cup apple cider viniger
salt / pepper / garlic to taste

put on low for 8+ hours. after that the meat will fall off the bone and you can shred it with a fork. I like mine over rice or a potatoe…

You can also do a whole chicken:

1 whole chicken - remove innerds
1 onion on bottom of crock pot
garlic
salt / pepper to taste
1/2 cup water

cook on low for 8+ hours, everything falls apart and the juice from the chicken makes a great gravy!
